Places to Meet Eligible Men

If you're not in a relationship, and you're looking to meet someone, I'm sure you've asked yourself "where are all the good guys?" It can feel really frustrating when you're on the dating scene and meeting a bunch of duds. Here's a list of places good men may be lurking:

At a bar - This may not be the most romantic way to meet a guy, but it's a great place to meet single men, who are also looking to meet single women. Drinking alcohol makes it easier for shy guys to approach you, and you can make dinner plans for another day if a guy sparks your interest.
At the gym - You can get a good look at a guy while he's working out (through the mirror without him knowing), and you'll know in advance that he cares about his health, which is a must.
At the grocery store - Hey you never know where cute guys will be! Keep your eyes open and you might find someone who has a knack for picking out avocados.

At church or temple - If religion is important to you, this is a great place to find a guy you know has the same morals and family values as you.
Coffee shops or cafes - If you're a quiet person, chances are quiet guys will be hanging out at coffee shops too, reading, writing or drinking a cup of Joe. You could make eye contact and spark up some great conversation with an intellectual guy.
Dinner parties - Meeting people through friends is a great, safe and easy way to meet eligible bachelors. There will be other people around so you won't feel nervous or on the spot, and it's quiet enough so you can really talk and get to know each other.
At work - You can get a good sense of what a guy is like if you work with him and see him everyday. You can have lunch together and have at least one thing in common to chat about.

Five Rules For Meeting His Parents

The holidays are fast approaching, so if you're meeting your boyfriend's parents for the first time, you might want to check out the five helpful tips that Glamour magazine is sharing with us in their November issue. As we all know, meeting the parents is a huge rite of passage, one that is never taken lightly, so check out my take on their five suggestions below and a few of my own, too.

Be present. If you're overly consumed with a pimple on your face or worrying that you're not saying the right thing, you could in turn come off aloof. Make sure his parents know you're interested in the conversation and in the moment.
Don't overspend to impress. Sending a thank you note, flowers, or bringing a small gift as a thank you for hosting you is always a nice gesture, but don't go overboard - you don't want to seem like you're trying too hard.
Volley the hard questions to him. If his parents put you on the spot to the point of uncomfortableness, turn to your boyfriend and cue him to take over. He'll know how to pull back the reins.

Drink in moderation (the night before, too!). Being hung over isn't cute, so make sure you're bright-eyed and bushy-tailed when meeting his parents for the first time. No one likes a drunk and chances are his parents will notice how much you drink, so know your limits and act like a lady.
Treat them like friends, not fogies. You don't want to age his parents by sparking up dull conversation about the weather. They are people in addition to being your boyfriend's parents so engage them like you'd want to be engaged!

In addition, here's what I suggest!

Have your boyfriend debrief you pre-visit. If you go in knowing what they are interested in, you'll be able to have an edge by knowing exactly what to say!
Be yourself. There's a reason your boyfriend wants to show you off to his parents so relax, take a deep breath, and let them get to know you.
Don't be too affectionate with your boyfriend. A little PDA goes a long way, especially in front of adults. Even if you're usually a very touchy-feely couple, tone it down a notch; you don't want to make them feel uncomfortable or come off as needy.

Tips on Meeting Your Significant Other's Family

Meeting your significant other's family is an exciting time, but it can be really nerve wracking. It's perfectly normal to feel anxious and to hope everything will go smoothly, but just remember that his parents are probably a little nervous and giddy, too. Here are some helpful tips to keep in mind:

Don't rush into meeting his family if you're not ready. Even though Christmas is days away and he wants you to come home to meet everyone, only go if you feel it's right.
Have your boyfriend show you family pictures so when you meet everyone for the first time, you'll be familiar with their faces, and maybe even impress them by knowing their names. Try to learn a little bit about each family member, too, so you'll have a few topics to chat about.
Bring a little gift. It doesn't have to be expensive, just a small gesture to show you care like a bottle of wine or flowers. Trust me, it'll make a great first impression!
Compliments are always appreciated, so go ahead and tell his parents what a sweet gentleman their son is. If you're at their house, why not compliment the food and their decorating style as well.
Above all, be yourself. Your significant other obviously loves you for who you are, so there's no doubt that they'll love you, too.

Which Comes First? Meeting His Parents or Him Meeting Yours

When you're in a relationship, I happen to think that meeting the parents is a huge deal. Let's face it - I wouldn't introduce my mom and dad to just any Joe Schmo! I like to meet his parents early in the relationship, too, since an evening with his mom and dad could give some eye-opening insight into the kind of person he is. I know geography has a lot to do with it, but if you had it your way, which would come first: meeting his parents or him meeting yours?

The How-To Lounge: New Avenues to Meet People

Meeting new guys is not all that hard - just head out to your local pub for a drink and smile a lot! But meeting quality people who you’d actually want to interact with sober and introduce to your friends is another matter entirely. And while throwing out suggestions like going to a bar or starting up conversations at your gym can be helpful for some, most of us have been there and done that. In an attempt to broaden our horizons, I’ve tried to think outside the dating box. To see my new ideas, just read more.

Get the word out there. Email your friends and ask your mom to talk to her friends. It may sound desperate, but try to think of it as practical. At least you know they’ll all be looking out for your well-being.
Do the online dating thing. I know for some the idea of meeting someone online seems weird or even embarrassing, but the days of online dating as taboo are over! Embrace the tools you have at your disposal, because you won't know until you try!
Try a dating event like a singles' night or a speed dating dinner. They may not have the highest success rates, but you’ll know everyone there is looking for a relationship, and that, my friends, is potential.
Take a class. School is one of the best places to meet new people. You’re forced to interact on a weekly basis without the stresses and pressures of work. Plus, you might actually learn something!
And finally, say yes to the strange requests from your friends and family. Like when your mom asks you to go to her best friend’s sister’s son’s birthday, do it. Or when your friend wants to go to a themed party, go for it. These are the random occasions that make up the stories that start with “It was totally unexpected . . .”

Yes, it’s all about taking chances, but why not? We’re not talking brain surgery here!

Do Tell: Is Super Bowl Sunday a Good Time to Meet Guys?

When a guy is totally into the game, chances are he'll be oblivious to the girls around him, but fair weather fans might take notice! The Super Bowl is not only one of the biggest sporting events of the year, but it's also a day to overindulge, which means parties will be plentiful. And while it's not typically considered a day to meet guys, I happen to think it's a perfect time to stumble upon an eligible bachelor, and in his element to boot!
