Hong Kong Teens Sell Sex For Shopping Money

"Compensated dating" is a growing and frightening trend among Hong Kong's teenage girls. The term refers to the practice of requiring a man to pay a fee for a date that more often than not includes sex. Shockingly, many teenage girls engaged in "compensated dating" are not selling themselves just to get by - they're reportedly doing it for extra shopping money.

CNN tells the story of Sze, a young woman who would charge $350 for dates when she was 16.

Sze said she started compensated dating because many of her classmates at an all-girls school were doing it. She says she became jealous when she saw the designer clothes, bags and cosmetics they bought with the money they earned through compensated dating.

This story - which sounds a lot like, well, prostitution - is especially troubling because the girls are so young. But, assuming that a woman is of age and that everything is consensual, do you see anything wrong with women using dates, and potentially sex, as a means of income?

What Do You Think About OTC Paternity Tests?

The UK Sun had an article today about how over-the-counter paternity tests would soon be available in Britain. Little did I know that they've been legally available online in California, Oregon, and Washington since 2008.

The American kits, created by Identigen, sell for about $30 and come with cotton swabs that are to be used for taking samples from the inside of the baby, mother, and man's mouth. Once these samples are sealed in plastic bags along with $119 lab fee and a consent form, they're sent in for analysis. The results can be accessed online within three to five working days.

Although the results are supposed to have 99.99 percent accuracy, they're not allowed as evidence in court, where a more expensive and standard DNA test is required.

Some people think it's a bad idea to make this information so easily available. The person who would stand to lose most from the results, they reason, is the child who is suddenly without a father. What do you think about over-the-counter paternity tests?

Intimate Problem: Penile Fracture

There's a time and place for wild sex, but you don't want to become too energetic and risk giving your man a penile fracture. When I saw this happen on a recent episode of Grey's Anatomy, I thought they were joking. I mean, there's no bone in the penis, so how could it become fractured? This rare injury actually involves the cylinder in the penis known as the corpus cavernosum, the part that becomes engorged with blood when a man has an erection. When the lining of this cylinder ruptures, it's known as a penile fracture. It's apparently an extremely painful injury that may be accompanied by a popping sound, immediately followed by bruising and loss of erection. The urethra may also be damaged, and a guy may notice blood at the opening of his penis. This is not something that will remedy itself with ibuprofen and a bag of ice - immediate medical attention and surgery is necessary, and if the guy doesn't get help, he can suffer permanent damage to his business.

A penile fracture can happen during sex when the woman is on top, when the penis becomes overbent, or if too much pressure is applied. It can also happen in non-sexual situations - anytime a guy suffers trauma to his penis while having an erection, he's at risk for a penile fracture. Like I said, this is a pretty rare injury so I wouldn't worry too much about hurting your man, but it is something to keep in mind.

Student In Legal Threat Over Excrement Blunder

Daniel Bennett is suing Leeds University for (s)crapping 5 years worth of rare lizard poop he collected from the Butaan lizard, thought to be extinct for more than 100 years. By studying its excrement, he could extrapolate (ex-crapolate?) "using clues to estimate dietary patterns, population size and structure, and activity areas." One day, Daniel came back from doing fieldwork and noticed his desk space had been cleared of personal items and, as he put it, "my 35kg bag of lizard sh*t." For the Sake of the Planet, Save the Plastic Bags?!

The second I remember to quit grumbling when I get a paper bag with no handles instead of the evil that is the plastic bag, the whole eco-mantra of choosing paper could be dumped on its head. One man, Stephen Joseph, is out to save the plastic bag. He's head of the campaign called Save the Plastic Bag, and he means business.

Even though his battle ramped a little more uphill after LA became the most recent US city to can the bags on Tuesday, he's convinced he has facts on his side. On his website, the well-named SaveThePlasticBags, he lists the reasons to choose plastic over paper:

Roaches love paper bags - they attract them.
When paper bags decompose, they release methane.
Paper bags take up more space to transport (making more trucks on the road and more space taken in landfills if they end up there.

Paper bags require 71 percent more energy to make and recycle.
Plastic bags consume 6 percent of the water needed to make paper bags.

And he's got much more on his website. His main complaint? The rush to ditch the plastic hasn't been fully examined. "My research into this issue has proved to me that something funny is going on. The anti-plastic-bag campaigners are not being challenged. . . . This is not an issue that belongs in the left bucket or the right bucket. It's about truth. And I'm determined to make it register."

Now that you know the facts, let me temper them with this: Joseph is also the attorney representing plastic bag companies. What's a shopper to think? Maybe the devil doesn't wear plastic after all?

Man Who Bought 2000 Voting Machine Buried in Chads

In a weirdo-political garage sale that keeps on giving, remnants from the 2000 Florida election are a hot commodity. Jim Dobyns, one Republican consultant who purchased 1,200 Votomatic III voting machines from the 2000 election debacle in Florida is starting to see his own returns. In 2005, a man who originally bought the machines from the county was reselling them from his warehouse. When Dobyns saw them all stacked to the ceiling amidst thousands of spilled chads, he bought the whole lot calling his buy the “Holy Grail of the 2000 election."

What does one do with a pile of old voting machines? Well, when the HBO movie Recount wanted to find the very same voting machines at the the center of the controversy, they called Dobyns, who leased them 26 machines for the shoot. Most of the machines have fallen into Democrat’s hands, many of whom are still angry about the 2000 election. Owners who have purchased the machines have also claimed that they enjoy having a piece of history and one heck of a conversation starter. One owner of Dobyns' machines said: “I always like to say however you vote it always comes out Bush, and then the heated debate starts from there.”

But the machines may just be one source of income. There’s always the infamous chads, most of which are now scattered in a variety of places in the Dobyns’ home. From the top of the microwave to under the coffee table to coating his pets, the little pieces of election-berry residue fall from the machines and sprinkle themselves everywhere. He is going to start selling the voter after-leavings with certificate of authenticity in ziploc bags for $20 a pop.

Somebody Watching You? Peeping Toms Lurking Everywhere!

Citizens all over the world are not safe from Peeping Toms. Venice police just caught a man who had photographed the backsides of over 3,000 women, as they strolled around San Marco square. The man tailed the women wearing short skirts, carrying a bag with a camera, and filming their tails through a small hole in the bag.

Apparently, the Peeping Tom wasn't who you would imagine - authorities say he is a working professional with two young children and a wife. The man faces six months to four years in prison. The Venice case might be the tip of a Peeping-Tom trend. To see who else has been sneaking around, read more.

In Canada, a 46-year-old man has evaded authorities for 14 years, enjoying his extensive library of women he videotaped through their home windows. He collected the footage in order to pursue his fantasies. Officers have only watched about 20 hours of the 90 hours of footage. Hm. Can you imagine being the officers who have to watch that creep show?

And an even more outrageous story comes right out of Charlotte, NC. Police chased a naked (gasp!) peeping Tom, and registered sex offender. When he resisted arrest, the policed stunned the man, who was wearing only tennis shoes, four times. I hope they were careful!

Foreigner Goes For a Nude Swim in the Imperial Palace Moat

What better way to spend your Tokyo vacation than dropping trou, skinny dipping on royal property, throwing rocks at police, and causing general havoc while your junk flaps in the breeze? According to Japan Probe, the middle-aged man jumped in to retrieve a friend's bag that had dropped, but it looks to me like he's having a good ol' time.
