A few days ago, an International Day of Climate Action was put on by the global campaign 350.org. Figuring the public is more likely to pay attention to practically naked models than Al Gore (naked or not), the group put together a video of smiling models taking off their clothes because global warming makes them too hot. I'm already skeptical of naked activism, but I think this video is trying to appeal to people who like barely-clothed models.

The King of Pop would have been halfway through his comeback concert series in London right now if not for his sudden passing, but his presence is still being felt in that city. Michael Jackson: The Official Exhibition is showing right now at London's O2 Arena, the site of Michael's ill-fated comeback tour. Personal belongings from the superstar's Neverland Ranch are featured, along with costumes, props, and other memorabilia from his epic career.

I don't want to say too much about this lingerie ad running in Germany because I fear it could give away the effect. But I'll tell you this: it definitely makes the point that anyone can have the desire to feel sexy. Check it out and tell me if you think it is powerful or problematic.

In a new commercial called "Track Meet," actress Heather Graham flashes her toned bod and a bit of cleavage to make the case that America needs a healthy public healthcare option. The spot, sponsored by MoveOn, claims that insurance companies have gotten lazy and bloated from the profits — but a little competition from a fit and lean public option should get the system back in shape. With a new poll showing that the majority of Americans want a government-run health insurance plan that will compete with private insurance, this ad might convince the rest of Americans who oppose it.

Nobel prizes have been winning headlines these days. We all dissected President Obama's unlikely award last week, and this morning we got news that Elinor Ostrom became the first woman to win the prize for economics.
Now I'd like to call your attention to an invention that has gained Elena Bodnar the Ig Nobel prize in public health.

Levi Johnston, teen dad and pain-in-the-ass to Sarah Palin, knows how to laugh at himself. After taking time out of his busy schedule to escort Kathy Griffin to the Teen Choice Awards, Levi has now fit a commercial for pistachios into his busy 15 minutes of fame. Since Levi has no shame, the Wonderful Pistachios commercial includes a joke about "using protection."

I know positive reinforcement is important when you're trying to lose weight or maintain the weight you have, but if you buy a scale and keep it in your bathroom (especially a pink plushie scale), wouldn't you want the numbers?
After your third plate of super-sized nachos, is it really going to help you to step on a scale and see "lovely," "sexy," and "perfect"? If you're going to forego numbers, you might do it by getting my new invention, the Mom Scale.

While I think tampons sell themselves thanks to their life-changing qualities, Tampax has recruited tennis great Serena Williams to pitch their lady products in a new commercial. Dressed in her tennis whites, Serena has nothing to fear from Mother Nature, because she's also wearing a tampon! Over the years, companies have appealed to femininity or used the rhetoric of freedom to sell tampons to women.

It's back-to-school with Britney, b*tch!
Britney Spears's official website features bangles, laundry bags, and now, back-to-school products like a Top hat B-logo mouse pad for $10, a $30 laptop sleeve, and a $10 Britney-in-her-makeup chair on the Circus tour notebook. None of these items makes me want to hit the books — but I wouldn't mind watching Tim and Camillo dance to "Circus" again!
