I don't think there's any better feeling than what you experience in the beginning of a relationship; the passion and excitement you feel is just unbeatable! As you get to know each other though, and become more comfortable, the newness can wear off and it doesn't take long before that passion and love fades away. It may seem like most relationships are doomed for boredom or divorce, but new research has proven that true love can actually last a lifetime.

At Stony Brook University in New York, researchers scanned the brains of couples who have been together for 20 years, and those who have been dating less than a year. When shown photographs of their loved ones, the scientists discovered that 10 percent of the older couples' brains had the same chemical reactions as the newer couples. This goes against previous studies, which showed that love withered after only 15 months, and was completely vanished after a decade.

I think this optimistic news about love and romance is a breath of fresh air, but do you think it's possible to love someone for your entire life?

Robert Pattinson Believes in "the One" - Do You?

Twilight's Bella may find "the one," but Kristen Stewart doesn't believe he exists. When Pop's Molly asked Kristen if she believes in "the one," the actress defended her doubt saying that she doesn't believe there are "chosen ones" who find their soul mates and other unlucky people who don't. What does she believe? That different levels of love can be achieved.

Yet, when Molly popped the same question to Robert Pattinson, he had a very different answer. "Ahh, maybe," he said. "Yeah, yeah - I think so." Not too convincing, but more starry-eyed than realist Kristen. Could get awkward if they really are together, as they seemed to be in Paris last week!

Colbert Won't Tell Us How to Get to Socialist Sesame Street

When not condemning SS for indoctrinating children with a love of learning and showing adorable clips, he calls out Grover for allowing kids to think marriage is just between two people and the legalization of Bert-and-Ernie marriages.

The Last Decade in Less Than Seven Minutes

Believe it or not, we're about to start a new decade in less than two months. That means we can all get ready for the barrage of recaps about the last 10 years, which have truly seen a lot of strange and sad events. This has been a decade dominated by terrorism, wars, Terri Schiavo, Hurricane Katrina, and gay marriage bans. But we've also witnessed the rise of YouTube, the Rick Roll, the iPod, Michael Phelps, and Barack Obama. Gearing up for the end of the year, Newsweek put together a seven-minute roundup of this decade's most memorable moments. I'm sure VH1 is taking notes for the inevitable upcoming show called something like "I Love the 2000s." What will we call this decade, anyway?

Has Technology Ruined Romance For Us?

Conservative columnist David Brooks wrote an essay in the New York Times yesterday about how technology is ruining love and sex for the youngins.

Although Brooks reaches this conclusion based on the testimony of some horndogs who agreed to be "online sex diarists" for New York magazine (he admits it's a pretty unrepresentative demographic), Brooks nevertheless believes their stories tell us something fundamental about love in the age of technology: it's allowed people to treat potential sex partners (and it's significantly limited to this) as if they were products on eBay.

Once upon a time - in what we might think of as the "Happy Days era" - courtship was governed by a set of guardrails. Potential partners generally met within the context of larger social institutions: neighborhoods, schools, workplaces and families. There were certain accepted social scripts. The purpose of these scripts - dating, going steady, delaying sex - was to guide young people on the path from short-term desire to long-term commitment.

Now? People have lots of different kinds of sexual attachments with different people at the same time, and their cellphones help making and canceling plans as easy as rearranging Netflix queues. (I'll take the credit for that last analogy!)

Chick Lit Comes in All Different Sizes

As far as I knew, literary characters already came in all different shapes and sizes, but apparently there's a "publishing phenomenon" sweeping America like a fad diet: curvy chick lit characters who fully accept their weight.

The UK Guardian explains that average-sized women want to relate to the heroines they read about - and they don't want the stories to be all about dieting. Titles that fit under the "big chit lit" umbrella include The Wife's Tale, a book about a woman who turns her life around (not by losing weight!) after her universe shrunk "to a well-worn path from the bedroom to the refrigerator," and Last-Minute Proposal, the story of cake-baker Tilly and the man who loves her cozy curves.

Ask Two Guys About Guys: Why Isn't He Calling Me?!

Colin Nissan and Sean Farrell of Don't Be That Guy fame have graciously agreed to answer some burning questions we women folk have about men. Last week they told us why some men are so carefree about farting, and this week they head into dating territory.

This week's question: "I dated this guy for about three weeks. One day all the emails, texts, calls, and dates stopped. Why do men come on strong and then vanish?"

I could be wrong, but it sounds like someone showed someone else their vagina a little too soon. It’s certainly not to say that waiting a year before having sex is always advisable. However, depending on who he is and how well you’ve gotten to know each other, sometimes it’s important to form more of a bond before doing the vulva waltz.

Sadly there’s a great deal of truth to the notion the guys lose steam once the chase has ended, so it stands to reason that the more you’ve connected while wearing pants, the more reason he has to be invested in the relationship.

Let him get to know that kooky laugh of yours or that adorable way you scrunch your lips when you’re concentrating on something. God, I love it when you do that. Do some activities that will let him get to know the real you: go to a movie together, have a picnic, maybe swim with some dolphins. Not coincidentally, all things that you don’t need your vagina for, missy.

Martha to Christina Hendricks: I Thought You Were Older

Good thing Martha Stewart never went into the etiquette business! In just under four minutes, she manages to say a couple incredibly awkward things to Christina Hendricks, better known as Joan Holloway on Mad Men.

First, she tells the 34-year-old actress, "I thought you were so much older." And then, about her on-screen husband, she asks the no-doubt confused actress, "Do you love him?" We're going to give Martha the benefit of the doubt and assume she means does her character love him, in which case that ~~makes total sense~~ barely makes sense. Between raping Joan last season and being a professional failure this season, what's not to love?

First Lady Offers First Rate Advice

For its annual Women of the Year issue, Glamour made Michelle Obama the first First Lady to grace its cover. The issue honors Michelle for her commitment to mentoring young women, and the First Lady shows off these mentoring skills inside the magazine, where she offers readers advice on life and love. Here are some excerpts:

On how it's important to invest in yourself: "I have always tried to put my kids first, and then. . . put myself a really close second, as opposed to fifth or seventh. One thing that I’ve learned from male role models is that they don’t hesitate to invest in themselves."
On what to look for in a partner: "Cute’s good. But cute only lasts for so long, and then it’s, Who are you as a person? Don’t look at the bankbook or the title. Look at the heart. Look at the soul. . . When you’re dating a man, you should always feel good . . . You shouldn’t be in a relationship with somebody who doesn’t make you completely happy and make you feel whole."

Why are dogs so carefree about barking? Why are birds so cavalier about chirping? Why do lions feel they’ve earned the right to roar? I’m not afraid to make a fourth animal analogy if it helps to illustrate the point that these species are meant to do these things - just as guys are meant to fart. It’s our body’s way of communicating with you. It’s saying, “Hey, I feel really comfortable around you, Leslie,” or “Wow, those enchiladas are passing through me like a fu**ing freight train.”

There are plenty of repressed guys out there who actually aren’t big farters, but running into the arms of a gas-free companion might not be the utopia you think it is. If a guy is sealing up his rear hole, then chances are he’s sealing up his other holes too. Like his fun hole and his emotional hole. It’s your choice, you can be with a guy with sealed holes, or you can learn to appreciate a natural, open-hearted gesture for what it is – and instead of rolling your eyes the next time your guy breaks wind, try looking over at him and whispering, “I feel close to you too. Make love to me, you smelly son-of-a-bitch.”
