Louis Vuitton Is Suing Darfur Charity?

Fashion conglomerate Louis Vuitton is suing 26 year old Nadia Plesner for using a LV look-alike handbag on a t-shirt and poster she designed to call attention to tragedies in Darfur. All the proceeds are donated to the charity "Divest for Darfur."

Constant media attention given to insignificant topics motivated the independent artist's "Simple Living" pieces. She explains on her website:

My thought was: Since doing nothing but wearing designerbags and small ugly dogs appearantly is enough to get you on a magasine cover, maybe it is worth a try for people who actually deserves and needs attention.

Louis Vuitton caught wind of the campaign and sent Nadia a cease and desist letter. She declined and responded: "Sometimes recognizable objects are needed to express deeper meanings, and in their new form they become more than the objects themselves – they become art."

Do you think less of LV for trying to stop a good cause, or is the company justified in defending its brand against an unfair connection to genocide? Should the law provide Nadia the freedom to express her outrage, and make money for charity while she's at it?

Big baller here got his hands on an '89 Oldsmobile and turned it into a one-of-a-kind ride. With a little paint, elbow grease, and some "chocolate glitter," he stenciled bling all over the exterior and gave himself the gift of Louis Vuitton. Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, when he's not partnering with Louis Vuitton and selling handbags in the middle of the Brooklyn Museum, is a pretty out-there artist. He decided to treat his Inochi ("Life") sculpture as if it were just another luxury product and shoot a commercial around it, a commercial that makes no sense and creeps me the eff out. . .(Thanks for the crazy send, Soni78!)

If this thing looked more fried (it kinda looks boiled with all the bumps), I'd be all over it. I'm still partial to it over the others, though. Fab says she has dibs on the hamburger wallet. Go for it, lady, it's all yours!

DEARSUGAR'S GUIDE TO PARIS: PART THREE - SHOPPING

I've saved the best for last; shopping. It's part of the culture here. Many of the world's finest designers are French and Paris is the mecca of Fashion Houses. People talk about the fabulous shopping in Paris, and now I know why. It's amazing - I've never seen anything like it!

Nowhere else in the world can you find solid blocks of couture like in Paris. They've got all the big flagships like: Dior, Chanel, Louis, Yves Saint Laurent ... and the most darling little boutiques. Even those who claim to hate shopping, can't resist at least a little bit of browsing.

SHOPPING:
Galleries Lafayette - 100,000 people walk through these doors every day (closed Sundays). One author wrote about how when she dreams of shopping, she’s often in Galleries Lafayette. This is a shopoholics haven with over 100 of boutiques under the same roof. 40 Blvd Haussmann

Rue de St. Honore du Fauborg - Think died and gone to heaven. This is what you imagine when you think of the shopping in Paris. I'm talking sick, sick fashion houses all along one gorgeously manicured windy street. And did I mention that July was sale season?

Avenue Montaigne - Most of Galleries Lafayette have it's own stores along this street. It's in a great location; by the Champs Elysees and near the chic hotels. It's definitely worth walking around. Dior is basically an entire avenue.

Champs Elysees - For this to be the most renown street in Paris, I wasn't impressed. It was very crowded and filled with all kinds of chain stores. Ever been to 34th street in NYC? It kind of reminded me of that. It does however house Europe's largest boutique, Louis Vuitton.

Colette - Again, this renown boutique did not live up to it’s standards for me. Perhaps it was the collection that it was carrying at the time, but the selection was sparse and the staff was rude. 2, rue Cambon

Bon Marche - Basically the Bloomingdales of Paris only a little bit edgier (think more like Barneys). I went and it was closed, but it was OK. The weather was too nice to be inside a department store. Wait, did I really just say that? 24 rue de Sevres

Diptyque - This upscale candle company is located in a great area. The prices at this store are also about 1/3rd less than in the US which makes these candles, great gifts. 34 Blvd Saint Germaine

So that was Paris. I went 8 years ago and did not have the same appreciation for it at all. I once thought the people to be snooty and rude, and the city to be old and hard to navigate. It’s strange how time can change your perspective. This trip was out of this world and I can’t wait to return. Vive la France

Lucy's Luxuries is a collection of high fashion dog carriers. Their collection is titled 'Anonymous' for that very reason. They are meant to look as stylish as your everyday Italian leather handbag, as well as double as a dog carrier (even pup needs a little privacy from the paparazzi)! The Hobbs carrier was designed with the male demographic in mind. It can also hold up to 12 lbs and can double as a briefcase, computer bag or gym bag.

Caring for your Lucy Luxuries bag is simple and easy. The inside lining of each of the bags can be wiped clean and the bottom cushion cover is both removable and machine washable.
