This literal video isn't made by the originators of this genius concept, but its wonky tribute to the genre is pretty good. The singer's cracking voice plus the crackling audio quality definitely add to the absurdity. (And is it just me, or is James Blunt really ~~beautiful~~ annoying?)

I am beside myself with excitement. I love these literal videos, and it's about time they came up with another one. This time the geniuses at Dust Films have literalized Billy Idol's "White Wedding," and it was well worth the wait! Notice how hot Billy was, if you can see through the tears of laughter.

I don't know why I'm so amused by these literal versions of videos, but I am. This one's not as good as the A-Ha vid or the Tears For Fears vid, but it's still quite amusing, especially when we get to watch Anthony Kiedis's pecs in slo-mo. Good times.

I'm so glad my hunch was right, and literal music videos are the next big thing! And I love this song. I bet back in the '80s they were all, "Let's make a video about a freaky library, it's gonna be awesome!" Little did they know the video would achieve never-before-seen levels of awesome 20 years later. Any guesses what '80s video will get literalized next?

A-Ha's "Take On Me": The Literal Version

I hope this starts a trend in music video mashups. It's like "Mystery Science Theater" meets VH1's "Pop-Up Video." (Or something like that.) The formula? Take a music video and replace the lyrics with a narration of exactly what's going on in the video - scene by scene. Amazing! Here's the original version should you want to do a side-by-side comparison.

Another Awesome Training Video

In addition to the Oscar-worthy performances by Cashier and Manager as well as from the drunk dude and his embarrassed wife, there is something else noteworthy about this training video. Aside from suggesting that one should call a manager when a stumbling drunk asks you to ring up his liter of vodka, this video really doesn't train you how to handle anything! What if wifey didn't show up to drag her husband's drunk ass out of the store - then what?

There is no shortage of political fodder for comedians in 2008. The campaign season took off with Stephen Colbert's Doritos-sponsored run for president. When his presidential dreams were broken into shards of bottom-of-the-bag chips, we turned to the feisty Democratic primary. The fightin' socialists!

During the 500 or so debates, our gossip-mongering eyes studied Hillary's glances to Barack, at one turn with the adoration of a schoolgirl and another with a readiness to bite into his soul. The love-hate relationship found its way into a spoof of the Sarah Silverman-Matt Damon video in "I'm F*cking Obama".

A quiet Summer brought a folksy Fall when Sarah Palin, literally, took the stage. Her interview with Katie Couric was spoofed on SNL; her life turned into a faux Disney movie complete with a real-life trailer; and her quote about "real America" was refuted in Jon Stewart's defense of fake America. But 18 days before the election, John McCain and Barack Obama got together and roasted each other, acknowledging in person the campaign headlines swarming above.

So those are our favorite Lighten Ups - what's yours? Haven't got one? Fear not because we'll be looking back at the biggest and bestest news from 2008 right into 2009.
