By Phil Collins. Titled "Sussudio." I don't think anyone ever knew what the hell this song was about, but Duffy's debut proved to be the coolest moment in all of television history anyway. She's a little older, but still straight up bonkers about bananas. You'd think the lady's fruit fetish would have let up by now, but it's only gotten worse. Not only does she sing the praises of her fave fruit, she adds big, beady eyes to its freckled exterior and creates a chorus of mouthless, banana backup singers. I suppose this is why they say life only gets better after age 60. Looks like a good time to me . . .

More Than Meets the Eye

When I first started watching this dramatic reenactment of the Transformers theme song, I was gonna make fun of these guys for being too old for this sort of thing. But the longer I watched, the more I was transfixed by their awesomely choreographed moves, perfectly synched sound effects, and "transforming" thrift-store wardrobes. Hey, it's more entertaining than the Transformers movie.

Since when does lip-synching count as talent? The following impersonator made it to the next round of the America's Got Talent competition for his outstanding lack of vocal skill. But I guess the whole lip-synching act isn't too far-fetched when one is impersonating Britney Spears . . .

The angelic-faced cherub singing with a voice from heaven during the opening ceremony of the Olympics really only had one piece of that puzzle: Lin Miaoke, the 9-year-old who was featured performing "Ode to the Motherland" while fireworks flared and 1 billion people watched was pulling one of the oldest tricks in the book. She was lip-synching the song.

And not just to ensure a flawless performance in case nerves or the wires interfered with her singing - she lip-dubbed because she was cuter than the girl who owned the voice. Under pressure from the highest levels of the Communist Party, the ceremony's production team was sent on the ultimate star search: to find the perfect face and voice to represent China. Unable to find the whole package, they pulled a C+C Music Factory swapperoo: Lin Miaoke performed to 7-year-old Yang Peiyi's voice (pictured below). To see why this happened, read more.

The reason given was "national interest," though it's unclear if Miaoke even knew it wasn't her voice played. The general music designer of the ceremony said when he revealed the illusion, “the child on camera should be flawless in image, internal feeling and expression.” Miaoke is already being called the "smiling angel," while real singer Peiyi says that she was happy just to have her voice featured.

This is the second report of fakery coming out of the ceremony (the recorded fireworks being first). My heart just breaks thinking about that perfectly cute 7-year-old and how it's going to affect her knowing that she wasn't "cute" enough for the Olympics. Is this a sad scandal or one to chalk up to showmanship?

She's not the only one who's gone. Everyone involved in the production of this amazing video seems to have been on qualuudes. First of all, John's in a sleeveless tux shirt with an awesome porn 'stache, and Daryl is rockin' a sexy mullet while not even bothering to lip-synch. And can we also talk about the devil who keeps wandering in and out? I've seen better devil costumes at kindergarten Halloween parties. I want more low-tech vids. Screw CGI and special effects-this is special.

And I'm not joking either. Lip-synching is sooo VMAs. This diva, on the other hand, has a voice and she ain't afraid to use it. She's also got a funky fresh keyboard to complement her vocal range-- booyah! And, she's got her finger on the pulse of pop music. I mean, could she have picked a better song to wow us with? I think not-- I'll never hear Supertramp the same way again.
