Jordan's Queen Rania Launches a YouTube Channel

Queen Rania of Jordan is asking the world to "send me your stereotypes." Jordan's Queen has just launched a channel on YouTube, because she wants people to see the real, unedited, side of the Arab world. She thinks the reality of life in the Middle East will surprise most who base their perceptions on simplified generalizations or shows like 24.

In order to reveal the personal side of her region, Queen Rania is asking everyone to send her their questions and concerns about Arab culture. Her mission is to "bring down stereotypes and build bridges between our virtual East-West communities."

World citizens are already taking advantage of the forum. One user wrote:

I am a 59-year-old American woman who firmly believes in equal rights for all men and women. Can you help me understand your culture's beliefs about the rights of women? My perception of women in the Arab world is based on seeing women wearing burqas or "having" to cover so much of their bodies in public here in the United States and in pictures from around the world. Why don't Arab men have to cover up? When there are demonstrations, where are the women? My perception makes me think Arab women are severely restricted in their outside world. Any insight you can provide would be much appreciated.

When I look at Jordin Sparks, winner of this season's American Idol, I see a lovely and talented 17 year old. And Meme Roth of National Obesity Action? "When I look at Jordin what I see is diabetes, I see heart disease, I see high cholesterol...She's a vision of unhealth." Ummm. Maybe you should go get your eyes checked, Meme. She's no size 0, but obese?! Also, what does this have to do with a talent competition?

Google's Jordan Hoffner was recently interviewed about advertisers balking at advertising on YouTube because, as he puts it (erroneously, if you ask me!), "Advertisers don't want their ads running on 'Cats with Skateboards.'" Can you guess the identities of these future celebs? My fave is the young gal in the bottom row. She grew up to become a very generous Goodwill Ambassador later on in life, and is also known for an even more generous smile. There has been ongoing speculation concerning her (hush-hush) brush with collagen as an adult, but she seems genetically blessed in this early picture with a nice pucker. Who is she? Do, Dump, or Marry? Jared Leto

Well, welcome back, handsome Jared Leto! The on-again, off-again hottie showed up today to promote his movie at the Venice Film Festival looking quite dapper - almost too dapper? I still have a weakness for Jordan Catalano, but Leto's looks have serious ups and downs. I like the salt-and-pepper stubble, though. What about you?

Gay-Married: A Term of Exuberance or Ignorance?

Some gay people may get married now, but do they get "gay-married"? Not so sure. The term is popular among a gaggle of campy gay (and straight) people to signify that they like something a lot. How much? They want to gay-marry it, like the Twitterer above who wants to do unmentionable things to a sandwich.

Good magazine cites our Do, Dump, or Gay-Marry Angelina Jolie post - and Pinko Magazine's more abrasive Gay Marry or Abort feature - as evidence that gettin' gay-married can be all in good fun. It's a new spin on the childhood taunt of "If you like it so much, why don't you marry it," and no different than 30 Rock's Tracy Jordan saying "I love it so much, I want to take it behind the middle school and get it pregnant."

Glib? Yes. Contemptuous? It depends. Some argue that it's insulting to gay people who want gay marriage to go mainstream; purveyor-of-the-bright-side Good thinks it entered our vernacular through the media and reflects society's comfort level with gay marriage. What do you think - is the use of "gay-marry" insulting to gays, or can it be a term expressing exuberance?

30 Rock on Slankets and Couples' Tattoos

On last night's 30 Rock, Liz Lemon adopts a Slanket as her loungewear of choice, after she convinces Tracy Jordan to buy his wife a better anniversary gift than a blanket with arms. But when Tracy learns what Angie really wants, he blames Lemon for forcing him to make a very difficult choice.

Depending on your relationship status, couples' tattoos can be a fine idea - or a very bad one. So here's a ridiculous choice for you: would you rather wear a Slanket, or get a tattoo with your significant other's name?

What Is the Clinton Global Initiative?

This week heads of state, nonprofit leaders, and philanthropists met for the fourth annual meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI). By gathering global leaders, the ex-Pres hopes they will devise and implement concrete solutions to some of the world's biggest challenges. Since 2005, CGI has committed $30 billion to programs that have impacted 200 million lives in more than 150 countries.

Some of the highlights from this year have included:

Bono spoke out about global priorities: "It is extraordinary to me that you can find $700 billion to save Wall Street and the entire G-8 can't find $25 billion to save 25,000 children who die every day of preventable disease and hunger."
Wyclef Jean's foundation committed to providing hot school meals for 14,000 poor children, food for 20,000 families a month, thousands of new agriculture jobs, micro-enterprise grants for 165 small businesses, 36,000 farmers with seed, fertilizer, and training, and implementation of a broad communications campaign to engage international and local Haitian musicians in the Together for Haiti Campaign.
Al Gore was joined at the opening session by Clinton, Queen Rania of Jordan, President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf of Liberia, Bono and E. Neville Isdell, chairman of Coca-Cola Co.'s board. Gore called for civil disobedience against new coal plants.
Lance Armstrong, who is planning to race in next year's Tour de France, pledged $8 million to a global awareness campaign for cancer, including a meeting that would convene in Paris after the tour.
