Truth by Omission? McCain Disses Palin on Tonight Show

This is how I like John McCain - kind of a jerk and completely blunt. Last night on The Tonight Show, Jay Leno asked McCain who he thought the leaders of the Republican party were, and he named Florida governor Charlie Crist, Louisiana governor (and 30 Rock's Kenneth the Page sound-alike) Bobby Jindal, and Mitt Romney (twice). And then to prove he didn't accidentally forget some lady governor who messed up his election, he said "and I've left out somebody's name and I'm going to hear about it." See it for yourself below.

Obama in Golden State as Fans Camp Out For Golden Tickets

President Obama is on his first presidential trip to the Golden State today, where he held a town hall meeting. Everyday Californians talked about their lost jobs and financial anxiety. The trip is reminiscent of the campaign trail, as at least one supporter shouted "I love you Barack!" But this time Obama isn't trying to win votes. He wants support for his complex mutibillion dollar budget and pricey plan to fix the economy.

After his events today, the President will hop over to Jay Leno's guest chair. He will be the first sitting president to appear on the show, and you better believe Americans want to witness that history. Last night, people camped out with sleeping bags and blankets, hoping to be among the lucky few to get tickets to the Late Show.

Stay Up Late With the President and Jay Leno This Thursday!

This Thursday President Obama will appear on Jay Leno's Tonight Show. Taking his reputation as a night owl to a whole new level, Obama will be the first sitting president to appear on a late-night talk show.

It won't be all laughs though - unless you find the recession particularly comical. Obama plans to chat with Jay about his plan to save the economy.

Jay Leno, step away from Martha Stewart. This woman is a master at turning gourds into lights, jars into vases ("vaw-ziz"), and babies into dinner table centerpieces. One more false move and she's going to go ninja on your ass, MacGyver style. And I don't think anyone will be sympathetic.

Where the [First] Ladies At? Michelle and Cindy On the Trail

Michelle Obama, with a fresh ink feature in the NYT, dropped by the Tonight Show last night in advance of Obama's 30-minute TV spot airing tomorrow night. She also joined the sisterhood of the traveling pants as it were, being understanding about Palin's current wardrobe conundrum. Michelle said, "A VP pick, it's like being shot out of a cannon. All of a sudden you're at the center of attention, and you want to look good. You're living in your home, minding your business, and all of a sudden you're on the national stage and everyone's watching."

She said her kids were less than thrilled about their Dad's impending TV appearance. Malia said, "'You're going to be on all the TV? Are you going to interrupt my TV?'" Obama assured her he hadn't bought time on Disney or Nickelodeon.

Cindy McCain is blazing up the trail too, recently in Florida with Rudy Giuliani touting her husband's credentials. Cindy said, "We need someone who understands what it means to send young men into combat and bring them home." Hitting hot local breakfast spots, the race car driver and pilot Cindy is shaking hands with the best of them.

McCain/Letterman, Biden/Leno, SNL/Crazy Lady? All Here!

Just when we thought it was going to get all grim and serious for the last 18 days of the election, the funnies come marching in! After LOL performances by both candidates at the Al Smith dinner - and despite jokes falling 7-1 against Republicans, which I'm sure were helped in part by Letterman's recent . . . . disgruntlement with McCain - the Mac showed up and told Dave last night the line more men might take advantage of: "I screwed up."

After taking a helicopter to the show to make darn sure he didn't miss it this time, Dave asked, "can you stay?" Laughs, but not all fun and games - he also hit McCain with serious questions about his association with Watergate player G. Gordon Liddy.

It was a tough and funny night - but McCain and Dave weren't the only ones yukking it up. SNL was on last night, and Joe Biden stopped by Leno - to see the clips, read more.

Remember the "he's an Arab," woman from that McCain rally? SNL does, too. Here's her appearance on last night's update.

The Thursday night update also tackled the last debate with all the Joe the Plumber goodness you can handle.

And where was Joe Biden? Hanging out with Jay Leno and giving poor JTP (that's Joe the Plumber, I feel like we know him that well) a hard time.
