Holy Harry Potter Come to Life! Invisibility Cloak a Reality?

Good news for all you sad Muggles wandering around all visible and everything - scientists say that they're a step closer to developing the technology that will give the power to make things and people (!) invisible. Researchers have demonstrated that they're now able to use artificially engineered materials that redirect light around three-dimensional objects, making them disappear into thin air, Harry Potter-style.

OK, it's not magic - the reason we can see objects is because they scatter the light that hits them, beaming some of it back to the eye. This cloaking technique uses materials, called metamaterials, to deflect light around an object, like a rock parting water flowing in a stream.

Though researchers are excited by the military implications of having the power of invisibility, the rest of us can feel free to come up with various (more important?) scenarios where we could apply this technology. Where would you want to be invisible?

Downsize the invisible tug-of-war idea and you get this easy to achieve, annoying as hell prank. Two punks position themselves across from each other on an overpass and pretend to string something from end to end. People walk. People slow. People needlessly stop or cautiously step over the invisible nothing they see below them. It's so funny, they forget to trip. Ha.

Boys will be boys. And when they have too much time on their hands during the summer, they can be major pains in the ass, too. This group thought it'd be fun to play invisible tug-of-war in the middle of a residential street, thus causing vehicles to slow down and sometimes come to a complete stop-- for nothing. If there was a time for road rage, this would be it.

Amid tales of Floridians showing up to vote on Super Tuesday - a full week late for their state's primary - and Obama's "girl" not showing up at all, there's this invisible ink voting snafu out of Chicago.

Election officials in Chicago investigated the claims of "magic" invisible ink pens to mark ballots, and concluded that it was "just utter stupidity." It's quite the Super Tuesday fiasco . . .

You may be surprised to hear, though, that even women who reside in extremely modest countries in the Middle East have the hots for seductive and sexy undergarments.

In Syria, where women often wear veils and long robes, the demand for push-up bras, leather outfits, whips, and edible underwear is on the rise.

After her wedding, a Syrian woman traditionally brings a trunk full of underwear to her husband's home. Some shop owners say that the Internet has added fuel to their imaginations and in turn altered the tradition. Now, some Syrian women don't want just any old underwear - they want the latest in kinky lingerie.

What do you think it is about lingerie that makes some women desire it, even if it's often invisible to everyone else?
