Baskin-Robbins' New Election Flavors! Which to Lick?

Just in time to cool off this heated election, Baskin-Robbins has released two spanking new flavors, one for each of the candidates. Ever wonder what two scoops of McCain tastes like? His flavor, Straight Talk Crunch is:

Caramel ribbon, chocolate pieces, candy red states and crunchy mixed nuts swirled into White Chocolate ice cream.

Think a lick of Barack is more your taste? His flavor, Whirl of Change, is:

Peanut-nougat ice cream whirled with chunks of chocolate-covered peanut brittle and a caramel ribbon.

I think they're willing to look the other way on the whole Obama doesn't like ice cream thing . . . Given the (banana) split of the country, what would election-themed flavors be without a chance to vote for your favorite? You can, in the Flavor Debate '08. From now until Oct. 20, sample the candidates' sweet stuff and vote online or in stores for the winner. I wonder if the ice cream war could be a useful replacement for the old Electoral College? It would be a sweeter contest, to be sure.

If I didn't know better, I would've assumed this was the prequel to the 2 Girls, 1 Nasty nightmare that recently swept the net. But this is actually how they sold ice cream in the '70s. Lick happy much? Either I have a dirty mind or advertisers were downright shameless back in the day. Or both.

Someone's been itchin' for a lickin' of ice cream, finally gets his turn for a taste, and pretty much devours the whole darn dilly bar. So much for his dog friend getting a lick in edgewise. (If anyone can tell me what that pervy-sounding German guy is saying, I'd be very grateful.)

The labor-intensive activity of eating ice cream just got easier. Introducing the Motorized Ice Cream Cone. Summer's upon us, and although I love the creamy, sweet goodness of ice cream, I don't like dripping, sticky crud all over me. Part of the problem, the inventors must have reasoned, is that the speed of cone-rotation and licking just aren't adequate to the task. Mechanization is crucial. For $8.99--who am I to argue? Big Gay Ice Cream Truck Opens Minds One Stop at a Time

If you've spent time in New York City, you know the demanding ring of a Mr. Softie ice cream truck, but now there's a new truck parking its ice-box-white wheels wherever it can - the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck. Doug Quint, the owner, knew that a middle-aged gay man driving an ice-cream truck would draw good and bad attention. So he went all out, painting rainbows on his big, gay ice-cream truck. And if that isn't enough reason to love him, this quote is:

Usually the kid is between seven and 12, I’d say. You can tell that they only think of the word "gay" as an insult. The parents brush it off. I can see that some of them do so naturally, and others take a brief moment while they decide how to react. They shrug, or tell their child, "Yep, it’s the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck." Sometimes they even come over for a cone.

I wonder if my silly banner, and the child/parent reactions to it, might be a good thing. Maybe one or two of the kids that pass by my truck will now think twice before using "gay" as an insult. If that keeps one kid from hearing it the way I (and lots of you) did - as a personal attack - I’m proud.

If you've always been envious that men have access to a libido in a pill, you might want to try "The Sex Pistol" - a new ice cream cocktail crammed with ingredients like ginkgo, biloba, and arginine, known to boost sex drives. . . . In the form of a popsicle of course. Del Monte asked 1,000 British women which male celebrity they'd like to see turned into a popsicle. The winner: Daniel Craig.

007's likeness has been turned into a purple "license to chill" popsicle that will be sold this week only (it's national ice cream week in the UK). Jude Law and Hugh Grant took second and third place.
