Is Bruce Springsteen a Good Choice for the Halftime Show?

The Boss may be coming soon to a football field near you . . . or at least your TV. Rumor has it that he'll be playing the Super Bowl halftime show this February. He'd be following in the footsteps of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, the Rolling Stones, and Janet Jackson (but, um, nobody likes talking about that one).

On the one hand, I would love to see the Super Bowl try again to feature an artist who got popular within the last decade or so; they can't all have wardrobe malfunctions, right? On the other hand . . . it's Bruce! How can I complain?

If this rumor proves to be true and Bruce really is the halftime performer, will you think it's a good call?

The Soulja Granny Halftime Show

A group of grannies got their bounce on during a recent Milwaukee Bucks basketball game. The halftime show had a boogie-woogie start with some good, old-fashioned swing dancing. It was charming, predictable, and a by golly good time! But that was just a warmup. These g-rents knew exactly what to do to crank 'dat crowd . . . (Thanks, College Humor!)

Mean-Spirited Mascot Goes On Manhunt

Mascots are really coming out of the woodwork these days and they're surprisingly aggressive. If the hyper-competitive break dancing elephant wasn't enough, we now have this display of insanity by the Atlanta Falcon's mascot. Look over the broadcaster's shoulder and you'll see what I'm talking about. Are those children he's relentlessly pecking away at? (Thanks, Best Week Ever!)

The Triumphant Return of Prince

When I first heard that Prince was playing the Super Bowl Halftime Show, I wasn't sure what to expect. After all, we haven't heard from Prince in a while, so it was equally possible that he would totally rule or just come off as a washed-up former rock star.

What we got was arguably the best Halftime Show in years: Not only did Prince actually seem to be having a great time, but he reminded us of the awesome talent that only a man comfortable in a sea-foam green suit can emanate. His voice sounded stellar, and he pulled out all the stops on the guitar. In case you missed it, here are the highlights from the show:

Prince managing to look cool while wearing a little kerchief to protect him from the rain.
A rockin' cover of "Proud Mary" with the glow-in-the-dark FAMU marching band.
The back-lit silhouette of the artist playing a ridiculous Prince-symbol-shaped guitar in front of a fluttering flap of fabric.
Plenty of improvisational outbursts, including air kisses and lines like: "Somebody take my picture/ with all this rain in sight!"
A "Purple Rain" guitar solo in the pouring rain.

This is "Simply The Best" halftime show I've ever had the privilege of enduring. Don't take it from me, take it from the highly reactive crowd in the stands. And I think it all boils down to the group's overzealous dancing queen...third from the left. Your eyes are craving him and only him.

Madonna's Super Bowl Halftime Show: Touchdown or Letdown?

The Giants may have won the big game, but the verdict on Madonna's Super Bowl halftime show is still out. The Material Girl took to the field in a Viking-like headdress and costume to revisit some of her biggest hits, like "Vogue" and "Music," while interacting with some impressive Cirque du Soleil performers, LMFAO, and Cee Lo Green. The set was a mix of old and new, since she topped it off with new single "Give Me All Your Luvin'" alongside Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. I thought it was a fun enough show for fans of Madonna, but I was hoping for something a little more explosive - after all, this woman has never been afraid to take risks. It just felt a little safe to me, and I would have liked to have heard some more classic Madonna hits. But I'd love to hear your thoughts; were you feeling the halftime show or not?

Andy Lewis Slacklines to Fame During Madonna's Halftime Show

During Madonna's Super Bowl halftime show, a performer jumping up and down on what appeared to be a tightrope had the crowd asking, "Who is that guy who looks like Will Ferrell, and what is he doing?" For anyone involved in rock climbing, you already know that it's athlete "Sketchy" Andy Lewis, the slackline king.

Besides being a lot of fun, slacklining is an incredible workout that challenges your core, agility, and balance. It may look similar to tightrope walking, but the differences are important. Unlike a tightrope, which uses a tautly-held rigid line, slacklining relies on the use of flat nylon webbing anchored with enough give to stretch and bounce. This give is what allowed Andy, who holds several world records in slacklining, to perform those acrobatic stunts during the halftime show. While it's grown into having a community all its own, modern-day slacklining is attributed to the Yosemite rock climbing community. In the '80s, rock climbers started killing time while camping by setting up slacklines using gear they already had - a tradition which still persists today. Some climbers even go slacklining thousands of feet up above the Yosemite valley floor. Slacklining has since evolved into a competitive sport and even bred offshoots like yoga slacklining.
