The 2009 Guinness World Records went on sale today. To mark the release, the world's shortest man, 2 foot 5 inch Pingping from China, posed with the world's longest legs, which stretch 4 feet 3 inches and belong to Russian Svetlana Pankratova.

Thousands Roll Dice for World-Record Game of Monopoly

At least 2,500 people from around the world have passed "go" and set a new world record for the largest simultaneous game of Monopoly. The big event took place in London, but organizers say once online players (who rolled virtual dice on Monopoly's online site, cell phones and game consoles) are counted, the total number of players could rise to 5,000.

The hour-long game took place on Wednesday and was the first of its kind. Guinness required a minimum of 1,000 players in 23 locations to set the world record. (It only took an hour? Monopoly games take forever. . .)

The Monopoly board game was born 1934 at the height of the Great Depression, when Charles B. Darrow of Pennsylvania, showed the game to executives at Parker Brothers. They rejected the idea due to "52 design errors," so Charles handmade sets with a friend and was quickly able to prove demand for the game to the game company. According to Hasbro, in its 65-year history, an estimated 500 million people have played the game. Check out SavvySugar's Monopoly quiz for more trivia.

So I guess I was only half joking when I mentioned that the Guinness World Records folks are running out of ideas. Take the following, for example. The commentator is making such a fuss (and the 20-person crowd is going wild?) about this dude trying to break the world record for...banana splitting? Seriously.

Another Guinness Challenge: Underpants Jumping

The folks over at Guinness World Records have set out to name the world's fastest underpants jumper. The person who can hop in and out of a pair of underpants the fastest, without resorting to one leg at a time, gets the record. It's kind of a big deal. And it might be somewhat tolerable if these competitors had any clothes on, but that would make the challenge a little less realistic, of course.

Real or Fake: World Records Made in Mexico This Year

Last month, thousands of Mexicans, including impersonator "Hector Jackson," performed Michael Jackson's "Thriller" dance with hopes of breaking the world record. While the success of the wannabe zombies is still under review by the Guinness Book of World Records, Mexico has already officially captured many records this year. It seems Mexicans take the Guinness Book of World Records very seriously, and the Times is happy to cover all their efforts. Cute Alert: Mr. Peebles, the One-Time World's Smallest Cat

I'm sure that since this video aired two years ago, another teeny cat has come to replace Mr. Peebles in the Guinness World Book of Records as the world's tiniest cat. But let's give this little guy his due, shall we? In this clip, he's two years old, and yet weighs only three pounds. Apparently, his original owner didn't love him (!!), so a veterinarian with a soft spot for Mr. Peebles took him in. (Click here to read more about his saga.) My favorite part of the story? When the vet saw him, he asked the owner, "Can I have him?" She replied, "If you can catch him." Cute!

This is one hellavuh halftime show! Meet Daniel Browning Smith. Unsurprisingly, the Guinness Book of Useless Records has named him the World's Most Flexible Man. Rubberboy here stretches himself this way and that and up and around and inside and out for fans at sporting events. Cuz, let's be honest, seeing a man nearly shove his head up his arse is more exciting than any old singer any day. This dude is freak flag fly.

Another Guinness Record Breaker

Again and again, I'm surprised by the sort of "skill" recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records. Here we have a man that can speed clap. Yup, that's his talent and he's darn proud of it. I guess he doesn't realize that he's the only one applauding this performance in the end. Hey, whatever works.

Cute Alert: Boo Boo, The World's Smallest Dog

One-year-old Boo Boo the Chihuahua is Guinness Book of World Records' smallest living dog (in height). According to her owner in Raceland, KY, Boo Boo was fed with an eye dropper every two hours when she was a newborn one ounce pup. That's right-one ounce. I love her little expression which seems to say, "See the matchbox? I'm not much bigger. Love me, please."
