Sunday Confessional - I Followed My Ex

My boyfriend and I recently broke up and I've been devastated ever since. As a way to cheer me up, my girlfriends planned a night out on the town to "get me back out there again." They told me I could pick the place, which is where my confession comes into play.

Since the split, I've been following my ex on Twitter and he posted where he was going to be Saturday night. I didn't tell my friends this, but I chose the same place for our girls night. We did in fact run into each other, and it was an unfortunate nightmare of an evening. It was all my fault, I'm totally aware of that, but I'm feeling incredibly guilty for ruining the fabulous night my girls had planned for me. I learned my lesson - I will never follow my ex again - so can I be forgiven?

Sunday Confessional: My Friend Took Things Too Far

My husband was out of town over the weekend so I decided to plan a girls' night out. The moms got sitters and we hit a few of the new trendy hot spots. Dinner was a blast and as the drinks flowed, we all knew we were in for a fun night!

When we got to the club (our final destination), we were almost instantly bombarded by men trying to pick us up. Since we're all married, nothing was going to come out of their advances, but the attention felt great. As the night wore on, I noticed that one of the girls had taken a liking to one of the guys. They were attached at the hip all night; drinking, dancing, and talking. When it was time to go, we couldn't find her anyway - they had disappeared.

None of us heard from her that night, but my phone rang early the next morning - it was her. In a trembling voice, she told me that she had made a horrible mistake and cheated on her husband with the guy from the club. As someone that has no tolerance for cheating, I was disappointed and disgusted with her confession, and I let her know it. I understand that she confided in me as a friend, but I don't think I can ever forgive her for being unfaithful; it makes me see her in an entirely new light. I know people make mistakes, and I know this is her life not mine, but can I be forgiven for feeling this way?

The How-To Lounge: A Proper Girls' Night Out

Every woman, even the ones that love spending time at home with their significant others, needs a night with their female friends every once and a while. But sometimes even our best intentions for making it a bonding extravaganza gets thrown by the wayside in the midst of drama. Have a plan before the day of. Pick a few places that would be good for your group. Then send out an email and let people vote on which place they like best. It will make everything easier if there’s a specific time and place in mind.
Make sure everyone understands that men are not invited. Even if you have to spell it out for them, it’s worth it. There’s nothing like one girl inviting her boyfriend to ruin everyone’s mood.
Plan on getting ready together if you can. Rushing around with your girlfriends before leaving will help get your energy up for the night out. Plus, it’s always nice to have someone around to ask opinions on your ensemble.
Let the night be an opportunity to splurge. Make dinner a smorgasbord. Order a dessert or two. Drink one glass of wine too many. Even if it means saving up for a few weeks, giving into temptation is worth it every once and a while, especially on a night that's meant to be fun.
Remember it’s all about your attitude. If you stay positive, it’ll reflect on every one else so put on a smile with your LBD!

Rule #5 For Jump-Starting Your Summer Fun!

Getting a glass of wine on a Monday night with your girlfriends is a great way to get yourself out there, you know, just in case, but chances are it'll be a pretty tame night which is why Fridays are the night to go big! People are ready to blow off steam from the long work week so my last rule to jump-starting your Summer fun is to get your girls together, throw on something sexy - leaving your sweater at home, of course - and head to your favorite dance spot or local bar. Keep a smile on your face and if someone you fancy glances your way, hold his stare. Although meeting someone special at a bar is a bit cliche, don't discount it - people meet their future husbands at bars all the time. And remember to be a lady - don't drink too much!

Do Tell: Do You Bring Your Significant Other Even When He's Not Invited?

I was recently at a girls' dinner and one of my friends showed up with her boyfriend!! Why she thought that was OK is beyond me, but it was pretty infuriating. I really cherish my girl time so when a man was unexpectedly thrown into the mix, the entire dynamic changed. Boy talk, period talk, sex talk, and shop talk turned into watch-what-you-say talk! I know it's not that big of a deal, but don't you think there is a time and a place for bringing along your mate? I might be way off base here, so do tell ladies, do you bring your significant other with you everywhere you go, even if he isn't invited?

Gender Roles - Love 'Em Or Leave 'Em?

Here's a poll from OnSugar blog Rantings of a Single Girl.

Let's go back to the 1940s for a minute. My grandmother was married, raised a kid, ran a farm, taught school, and kept a clean house. All while my grandfather was away at war. After my grandfather came back from the war and had recovered from his wounds, they went back into their traditional roles. He ran the farm and did all the "manly" things. My grandmother raised my aunt, taught school, and still had dinner on the table by 5:30 PM every night. All while pregnant with my dad.

I'm exhausted just talking about it.

I bring all this up because I've been thinking about gender roles lately. I look at my parents. Granted, my dad still does majority of the "manly'" things around the house and my mom does the household things, neither one is afraid to help out the other. My dad does housework. My mom can swing a hammer when needed.

And that's what I like.

I'll never be able to date a guy who believes in traditional gender roles. As much as I like cooking and being in the kitchen, I don't like being expected to be there. If we have kids, I'm not going to be the one who raises them. I certainly expect their father to help out. At the same time, I don't expect him the only one who takes out the trash or fixes things when they break. I think 50/50 is a good blend.

So could you be with someone who firmly believes in traditional gender roles? Or would you rather share the load?

Were You Ever Attracted to Bad Boys?

With her rocker eyeliner, all-black wardrobe, and perfected eye roll, Gossip Girl's Jenny Humphrey isn't exactly fitting in with the prissy kids at her prep school. It's obvious that she needs a bad boy by her side, and on last night's episode that's just what she gets.

Jenny meets up with a Belgian diplomat's son, who happens to be drug pusher. She seems turned on or at least intrigued by his rebellious side and ends up helping him with some sales. Luckily, original bad boy Chuck Bass (they know his name even in Europe) is there to save Jenny from the dangers of drugs. But now that she's had a taste of the fast life, I suspect she'll be back for more, especially since she already has the wardrobe.

Although Jenny's appearance in the episode is otherwise pointless, it did remind us that sometimes we can be attracted to bad boys - even if it's completely stupid. Have you ever had a thing for troublemakers?
