Eco-Nudists Go Naked to Save the Planet & Paltrow's Fur Furor

Want to help the planet? Then what are you doing sitting there all dressed and everything? The newest wave in eco-activism is all natural, sans a stitch of clothing. Gwyneth Paltrow may be wishing she'd followed that example after her deal with Italian designer Tod's and resulting ad showing her wearing fox fur and fur-lined boots has earned her heat from animal rights groups.

Gwyneth has been known for her embrace of holistic practices, yoga, vegetarian husband, and pal and vegan designer, Stella McCartney - but this campaign stands to erase that cred. The director of Respect for Animals, said: "Gwyneth Paltrow should be ashamed. I can only assume that Paltrow either is ignorant of the facts or lacks human decency and compassion." Friends have even said that Gwyneth's decision will flay her close friendship with Stella McCartney.

Not satisfied with the casual sun-bathing reputation of nudists, Econudes.org have embraced the naked as the ultimate way to erase your carbon footprint. After all, clothes (and everything that goes into making and transporting them) are a major cause of climate change. Take those off, and the planet might be happier. It's apparently an ancient practice dating all the way back to the 70s when nudism was defined as "a way of life in harmony with nature, characterised by self-respect, respect for others and for the environment."

If warming skepticism is more your schtick, you can shuck your socks for that too, sort of. A renegade group called Nudists Opposing Winter actually like the warmer weather because, well, it's nicer to be nude. The founder "Pantsless James" says, "we actively support pro-global warming places and companies. No longer will nudists be forced into the fetish of clothes wearing. It frees up everybody to go clothing-free, the way God intended."

Silliness aside, is nudity a good way to bring attention to the strain on the planet we wear on our backs everyday? Is Gwyneth's endorsement deal a slap to animals? Should we all just go-go naked?

Très Bizarre: Rammstein Box Set, Now With Bonus Dildos!

Did I mention that the dildos are purportedly molded from each band member's well . . . member?

I love the over-the-top German industrial metal band Rammstein the way I love over-the-top band Abba - with a serious dose of irony. You can never tell if their shtick is for real or tongue-in-cheek, but either way, I like to dork out to them on my way to work.

Well, it turns out that their new box set Liebe Ist Für Alle Da comes with a metal case filled with handcuffs, lube and six pink dildos that are supposed to "reflect the sizes of the six members’ wienerwursts" as Daily Swarm put it. Ha! I guess this is one way of getting close to the musicians you love! Is this better than a personally autographed photo?

Do Tell: What Was the Worst Pickup Line You Ever Got?

Our friends at Em & Lo have listed the 10 rules of the pickup, some for men ("Never look someone in the boobs while talking"), but some which are addressed equally to women ("Do not wordlessly dry-hump a stranger from behind on the dance floor"). Damn! There goes my main move.

When I was an undergrad, I was assigned Venus in Furs for a literature and psychoanalysis class and was reading it intently at a cafe. Now, the book is an erotic tale about a man obsessed with a dominatrix, and the cover had an arresting image of a woman in a red fur coat. A guy kept walking back and forth past my table, and finally, when I looked up, he gave me a creepy look and said, "That is my favorite book. May I sit down?"

Needless to say, the answer was no, but that probably wasn't even the worst pickup line I ever got - just the one I can remember. What was the worst pickup line you ever got? What was your reaction?

For some time, fur has been a status symbol of wealth and old style elegance. It will also keep you bundled and warm on a cold winter's night. However, the way that fur is obtained is highly controversial.

Just recently, supermodel Kate Moss was given a hard time about wearing a fur jacket to a charity event which upset an anti-fur organization. How do you feel about wearing fur?

Meet Danelle, a professional cat groomer who particularly likes shaving Persians - and then surprising their owners with handbags made of their shorn fur. (Pause to take that in.) How did the first person she did this for respond to the bag? "She had no words to express how she felt about it. She was in tears over it." I don't have too many more words about this either, so I'll turn it over to you. Is a handbag made of your pet's fur (even a pet named "Smelly Cat") cute or creepy?

This French fur-losopher, Henri, is clearly the heir to Jean-Paul Sartre, what with his dark broodings about ~~mankind~~ catkind and everything. Jean-Paul Catre has a lot to say about how hard his life is and how he is mocked at every turn. Oh, Henri. Lighten up! There's nothing a nice Cates-du-Rhone won't fix.

Although it looks like someone drew in Groucho Marx eyebrows on this kitty, I think those brows are real! Maybe a little fur dye or kitten electrolysis will help this cat so that he doesn't have to go through life looking so quizzical. Or maybe it doesn't matter - it looks like someone is in love with him just the way he is!
