Handle This: Your Friend Ruined Your Plans

You have a large group of girl friends from college that you still stay in touch with. You've all been talking about getting together for a reunion night, but after months of talk, no one's taken on the responsibility, so you decide to take it upon yourself. You all agree that instead of a big group dinner out, it would be more fun to make it a girls' night in. The problem is your apartment is just too small for that many people. One of your friends has a great place for groups; you ask her if she'd be willing to let you throw it there, and she agrees.

When the weekend of the party arrives, you call your friend to confirm the plans for setting up at her house. But now she tells you that it's not a good time for her, and she's not feeling well. You assure her she doesn't have to do anything, but she refuses. Now you have a 20-person party with no location. How do you handle this?

Handle This: He Thinks You're Cheating

Recently you've had to cancel plans with your boyfriend a few times due to some school- and work-related issues. He's never been especially jealous, but the new school year must be bringing out his paranoid side. Each time you've changed plans, he's called to check up on you throughout the night. Still, you're shocked when he asks whether or not you’re cheating on him. When you tell him no, he seems even more convinced and begins to list multiple reasons why. He can’t seem to kick his paranoia, so how do you handle this?

Handle This: Totally Ditched

A friend has been down and out lately, so to cheer her up you decide to plan her birthday party for her. You’ve rented a venue with a great DJ, bought some nice bottles of champagne, sent out the invites, and are really looking forward to the occasion.

But come that night, suddenly it seems like everyone who was planning on coming is bailing on you. In fact, the few that do show barely fill the whole table in your private room. Your friend is beside herself, so how do you handle this?

This or That: A Big Embarrassment or a Complete Flake?

For the past six months, you and your sister have been battling it out over a particularly terrible weekend that you spent visiting her. Though at the time the argument about her rude behavior wasn’t a huge issue, it’s managed to come up time and time again since then. In an attempt to finally make the peace, you invite her to a dinner party you’re hosting, which she accepts. Would it be worse if she . . .

This: Manages to make it on time, but then proceeds to rehash the details of your dispute for all of your friends to hear? You know it's a big deal for her to have come, but she just won’t let it go and it only serves to make you angry.

Or…

That: Is a complete no-show, and won’t answer her cell when you call? The party’s fine without her, but you feel completely hurt and let down.

Who needs subtlety when you can just bash someone over the head with sex? This commercial (from the 70's maybe?) is for Cadbury Flake candy. It's almost as ~~good~~ bad as that TaB commercial I posted a while back--also from the 70's, the Flakey Decade.

What's the opposite of subliminal advertising? In-your-face "our product is like a penis that this pretty lady really likes" advertising. Never heard of it? Just watch all the old Cadbury Flake ads and you'll see what I mean. Wow.

Texas man buys Illinois-shaped corn flake for $1,350 on eBay

Man, I gotta get in on this eBay action! Two enterprising sisters from Virginia just sold a Corn Flake that kinda looks like Illinois (don't all Corn Flakes kinda look like Illinois?!) to some guy in Texas who must've been sprinkling LSD on his Corn Flakes when he decided to make this purchase. Shake the Flake

Dear Sugar
I have been on a few dates with this guy that I am really starting to like. He is great, but has just one problem - he has major dandruff. The first time I noticed it I thought he had been out in the snow, but then I realized what it was and I was horrified.

Is there a way for me to politely tell him he needs to invest in some Head & Shoulders Shampoo? This problem really bothers me and I would like to correct it if possible so I can focus on what's inside of him instead of being distracted by his dandruff. Grossed Out Gali

Ick! If his dandruff is so bad that it looks like he was actually caught in the snow, why hasn't anyone told him about it? Better yet, I wonder how he hasn't noticed it himself? The best thing that you can do for him is to be his friend and tell him sooner rather than later - however awkward the conversation might be.

Dandruff is actually a very common problem that affects over 50% of America's population. The main culprit of dandruff is caused by a rapid turnover of cells caused by an excess of yeast on the scalp and is surprisingly more common in men than women.

This could be a very uncomfortable conversation since you are in the beginning of your relationship so try to keep it as playful and light as possible. The next time you see him, try rubbing his hair and saying something like this:

"Wow, your scalp is really dry, I am going to get you some new shampoo for you to try."

The more easy going you are, the more comfortable he will feel. The best way to rid yourself of that annoying flaky mess is to use a shampoo with tea tree oil or anti-yeast ingredients. A helpful tip is to avoid scratching the head. Scratching will make the symptoms worse and can damage the hair follicles at the root. I hope the shampoo helps and good luck!

This Pedi Pistol commercial should come with a Not Safe For Life warning. Since it doesn't - I'll warn you: NSFL. Is it really necessary for them to be so graphic? I mean, how many times does a viewer really need to see the Pedi Pistol sand flaking skin off someone's nasty heel? Before you yell at me for posting this, thank the universe for small mercies. I'm not posting this exactly at lunch time.

Sunday Confessional: I Hurt Her, But She Won't Let It Go

About two years ago, I entered a bleak time in my life and fell into a depression. Fortunately, I was able to make it through, and I feel much stronger today. However, at the time it was difficult to just leave the house, and I really distanced myself from many of my friends. In fact, one of my closest friends was going through her own struggles, dealing with a terrible breakup and the loss of a grandparent. More than once she called me crying and I failed to return the call, too lost in my sadness.

In the midst of this, it was also her birthday and she begged me to come out with her. With much trepidation, I said yes, but when the day finally rolled around, I totally flaked. Needless to say, that was her last straw. She wrote me an email basically telling me that she was sorry I was unhappy but there was no excuse for my behavior. That email as well as some other incidents forced me to see things differently, and with the help of my therapist, I was able to start putting my life back together. Eight months ago I reconciled with my friend. I told her I was so regretful of the pain I caused her, and though it took some talking, we worked it out.

But since then she's been very passive aggressive with me. She often won't call me back. And when I ask, she says, "Now you know how it feels." And she's always quick to remind me of how I hurt her, and even puts me down. She's such a good person, but she seems to have these bursts of anger towards me. I take full responsibility for what I did, and I was even willing to put up with this to some extent, but two years after the fact, it's getting old. I don't feel like this is warranted, but maybe I'm wrong. Do you think I deserve this? Or is it time for me to be forgiven?
