What Would Andy Samberg Do for a Klondike Bar?

The annoying talking food phenomenon continues! Heartthrob at large, Andy Samberg, has a problem. His Klondike bar just got dumped, it's feeling kinda lonely, and wants someone to hang out and snuggle with. Andy doesn't typically "snuggle," but will he do it for a Klondike bar? He says "no." The manipulative ice cream treat has another answer in mind. The sitch goes sour from there . . . (Warning: NSFW language)

Dear Poll: Would You Ever Consider Being a Surrogate Mom?

Unfortunately, not all women can get pregnant. But then there are some that can get pregnant, they just can't carry their baby full term. Of course adoption is an option, but if you want your own mini me, having a surrogate is another great alternative. The use of surrogate mothers carries a weight of controversy, but calling upon a woman close to you, a best friend or sister is a different story; it might just be one of the biggest favors a woman can ask. Of course, this would never be a rash decision, but I'm incredibly curious, if your sister or closest friend came to you with this request, would you consider being their surrogate mother?

Source

Dear Poll: Do You Ask Your Friends For Favors?

It's inevitable that we sometimes have to ask our friends for favors, whether it's help with a move, a ride to the airport, a place to crash, or a recommendation for a job. Some people demand huge favors of their friends, while others hate asking for even the tiniest smidgen of help. Where do you fall on the favor spectrum?

All-Male Morehouse College Bans Cross-Dressing

It appears that folks in Georgia aren't too fond of cross-dressers. We told you about a teen in Kennesaw who quit high school rather than stop cross-dressing, and now Martin Luther King, Jr.'s alma mater Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA has instituted a no dress-wearing clause to its larger dress code policy.

The "Appropriate Attire Policy," which already bans casual attire like do-rags and sagging pants, has now added dresses to the list of casual clothes its male students cannot wear. But the last time I checked, a dress isn't "casual" attire; a dress could actually be considered formal attire. So what's really going on here? If you want to weigh in, read more

This rule was implemented because of five men on campus who are cross-dressing, according to Dr. William Bynum, Morehouse's vice president for Student Services. "We are talking about five students who are living a gay lifestyle that is leading them to dress a way we do not expect in Morehouse men," he said. Even the campus' gay organization, Morehouse Safe Space, was OK with the ban, voting 24 - 3 in favor of it before it was instituted.

Do you think that a gay man wearing a dress is on par with a barefoot, saggy-pants wearing man in a do-rag, or is this institutionalized homophobia in action?

Do Tell: Were You the Favored Child?

Whether you like to admit it or not, one child is always more favored than the others - it's just the way family dynamics work. At the end of the day, I'm not sure if it's necessarily a good thing to be the favored one, but there's no denying that in every family, there's a pecking order. I know there was in my family so ladies, do tell: Were you the favored child in your family or were you the one always fighting for attention?

Jon Stewart: How Could Senators Vote Against Antirape Bill?

Senator Al Franken recently sponsored the Franken Anti-Government-Contractor Rape Liability Bill. The legislative amendment states that the US government will not hire companies who make employees sign a contract saying that they will not sue if they are raped by other employees.

Franken was prompted by a female employee of a Halliburton subsidiary who was gang-raped by her co-workers in Iraq. She could not press criminal charges because it happened out of US jurisdiction, and she could not sue, because the fine print in her employment contract waived that right.

Franken's amendment should put an end to such atrocities, but not all members of the Senate were on board. The final vote was 68-30 in favor. Jon Stewart wants to know: how is anyone against this? Watch this clip from last night's Daily Show to find out how certain lawmakers justified their opposition.

It seems impossible to remember a time BC: Before Campaign. That may be because we've been at this game seriously since 2006. By the time the US votes, it will be a vote two years in the making (at that rate, isn't it time to start the 2012 campaign?) Perhaps because of this stretched out schedule, the capacity for substantive debate has been also stretched - to the snapping point.

Whether a function of the campaigns themselves running out of ways (gimmicks?) to keep themselves in the public eye for an interminable amount of time, the media's fatigue with covering yet another town hall in yet another town, or the public's appetite for newer, better, flashier, the campaign we're seeing now, well it's a little stinky.

Case in point: the Obama Energy Plan tire gauge. I admit, I saw it and winced. Because now that we've seen it all, every move, especially during these lazy days of summer, is heightened in import to a major event - and when McCain is actually out there and talking about his plan in a more conventional way.

Now, the gauge itself, kind of funny. Obama did say we should inflate our tires. The doohickey just takes a statement and gives it legs in a party favor format. And I don't doubt it was meant as a joke - McCain is famous for them, like when Obama was on his big trip abroad, and the McCain team handed out gag press credentials to the domestic-bound crew traveling with him that read "JV Squad: Left Behind to Report in America." I mean just using the word "JV" in an adult setting is inherently funny - but what does it say about the discourse? To find out, and see Paris Hilton's response to the celebrity ad with an energy plan of her own, read more.

Here's the rub: even though stunts like this and the celebrity-filled ad get picked up and talked about, I question whether they might do more harm than good. McCain has an energy plan, the Lexington Project, and it's not too shabby. Obama's got one too and there are substantive comparisons out there, in addition to the candidates' own websites that spell out their entire energy policies. I have faith that there is room for levity and gravitas in the campaign, but given the duration of constant scrutiny, one tire gauge can be spun as the sum total of a plan when that's far from the truth.

Do stories like the tire gauge and the celeb ad make the campaign lighter than air - or simply lighten the mood?

If he was nice enough to take the time to pleasure you, is it only fair to pleasure him right back? Do you think he's expecting you to return the favor? If it's not your favorite thing to do, will you satisfy him just because he did it to you? Share your thoughts below.

Supreme Court Considers Legality of Crosses on Public Land

While the Supreme Court decides whether or not religious symbols can be erected on public land, one justice already has his mind made up. During the oral arguments on the legality of a cross at a World War I memorial, Catholic Justice Antonin Scalia more than hinted at how he is voting. Scalia said yesterday:

What would you have them erect? . . . Some conglomerate of a cross, a Star of David, and you know, a Muslim half moon and star? . . . I don't think you can leap from that to the conclusion that the only war dead that that cross honors are the Christian war dead.

Scalia definitely has no problem avoiding religious sensitivity. He seems to dismiss even the idea of a more inclusive memorial outright. Since the memorial was built more than 75 years ago, there could be a valid argument for preserving it for historical reasons, but it seems only right that today's memorials should not favor one religion. Then again, perhaps the separation of church and state goes even further to dictate that no religious symbols should be found on public land. That is the question the Supreme Court must decide.

What do you think? Should crosses be allowed on public lands, should religious memorials be required to be all-inclusive, or should religious symbols be banned altogether from public land?
