Whether you have an amazing relationship with your father or a lousy/nonexistent one, Father's Day is a time to reflect on how this important figure in your life shaped your relationship to other men. (It can even impact desire/identification for gay women.)
Psychologists have argued that if you had a loving and healthy relationship with your father, you will most likely seek out men with his qualities. For women with unbalanced or dysfunctional relationships — either an overdoting, overprotective father or an absent one — they can become, in the former case, "princesses" who expect men who bend over backward for them, or, in the latter case, women with "daddy issues," who look for the same unavailable or unsatisfactory men who remind them of their disappointing fathers.

Both assumed presidential candidates had scenes from their respective personal histories appear this weekend, giving a retrospective peek into the shaping of their contemporary philosophies.
Barack Obama used Father's Day to unleash a sharp criticism on the topic of fatherhood in the African American community, Bill Cosby-style. Obama, recalling being abandoned by his own father at age 2, said, "I resolved many years ago that it was my obligation to break the cycle — that if I could be anything in life, I would be a good father to my girls."

Thanks to my dear friend PartySugar, I've learned a few new cooking tips that I plan to wow my dad with this Father's Day. Although I'm no pro, I think cooking brunch would be a perfect way to spend quality time while doing something we both love — cooking and eating! I happen to think holidays such as these are all about QT spent with family so tell me, how are you spending Father's Day this year?

Through the course of our lives, it’s amazing how many times our relationships with our dads will change. And somewhere along the way they can become anywhere from the person we trust most to the person we get along with least. It’s a rough road — what relationship doesn't come with its challenges?

Is it just me or does shopping for Dad seem nearly impossible sometimes? Tools and ties just don’t cut it anymore and DVDs and CDs get tiresome year after year. Plus even if he doesn’t say so, I think Dad enjoys a meaningful and well-thought-out gift just as much as Mom does.

Although I'm a daddy's girl, my father and I have our fair share of differences, too. Our political beliefs couldn't be more opposite and while I like to think I handle stress well, he cannot take the heat! We may not agree to disagree all the time, but it's our differences that make our similarities all the more special.

As women, it's assumed that we have more in common with our moms than our dads, but more often than not, women share plenty of character traits and physical attributes with Dad, too. While my personality is more similar to my mom's, my dad and I actually share many of the same hobbies and interests — not to mention our hair and noses! But what about you?
