Even though November is National Beard Month, not all women are fans of a furry face. Maybe you prefer the smoothness of a freshly shaved face, or the edgy look of a barley-there scruffy goatee. Then again, you might be a fan of the ironic hipster mustache.

George Clooney seems to be sporting a mustache these days, and it changes his look completely! I don't think there's any denying that he's still incredibly attractive, but I've got to say, I'm not a fan of his lip accessory. It might just be me, but mustaches seem to make guys look a little smarmy. I prefer my men cleanly shaven, but what about you? Are mustaches a turn on? A turn off? Or does it completely depend on who's wearing it?

Facial hair is like a male accessory; whether a guy has some or not, it always says something about his particular style. And if he does keep facial hair, his particular trim job is what makes him unique. Maybe he goes for the lower lip flavor-saver or the rugged and masculine scruffy beard. Whatever his choice may be, facial hair can make a man shine or simply give him that unkempt look that some women do find incredibly appealing. Personally, I appreciate anything that highlights a man’s jawline, but I prefer the well-groomed look to facial hair. Do you find facial hair sexy?

Men's facial hair has always been an enigma to me. With all the options out there - from beard to mustache to soul patch (shudder) to goatee to side burns - how does a dude decide? It never occurred to me that an agonizing day of windowsill moping, reflection dissection, and chanting was involved. Men are so vain.

Men have facial hair - it's an annoying fact of life that they need to deal with just as we women have to deal with the nuisance of leg hair.

Some guys shave it all off so their face is soft and smooth, some guys let it get stubbly and scruffy for that sexy laid back look, and some guys grow it out and trim it like facial landscaping.

Every woman has her preference, so I'm curious to know what you like...

The World Beard and Moustache Championships are held every other year in a quest to find the best facial hair on the planet. Men around the world pack up their hair spray, gels, combs, and costumes in preparation to put on their game faces- with the aid of a little styling, teasing, and sculpting, of course. This fetish for designer facial hair has a very strong following in Europe, and is gaining momentum in the U.S. (Thanks to Brad Pitt.) In the off-season, online chatboards connect bearded men around the world and help them exchange tips, tricks, and "role models" (such as the bearded wizards of The Lord of the Rings) with each other. Giggle Girls, what do you think? Is facial hair with flair...

In Celebration of the Mutton Chop

The folks at Mutton Chops Rock pay homage to one of the most extreme facial hair trends out there - so-called mutton chop sideburns. They start as regular sideburns, and then crawl over large portions of the face in the shape of a big-ass mutton chop. My fave mutton chops are on Joel Gion (former Brian Jonestown Massacre tambourine player) shown up there. It's National Beard Month and that doesn't just mean facial hair. Not to us anyway! A whole other beard genre's been growing since the middle of the 20th century - the gay cover-up beard, which is slang for a person of the opposite sex used as a cover for a gay partner. At its best, the beard is mutually beneficial to both partners. At its worst? A life of lies. For a long time the term was as secretive as its roots, but I've been hearing it more and more to describe not only real-life marriages, but also TV and movie couplings.
