Cute Alert: Elephant and Dog Are BFFs

Meet Tara. She lives in an animal sanctuary in Tennessee. Normally, she'd find another elephant as a BFF. That's how all the other elephants do it, anyway, "like best girlfriends," according to the woman who runs the sanctuary. But Tara? Her best friend is a stray dog (one of many who now call the sanctuary home) named Bella. They eat, drink, sleep, and play together. Even sweeter, when Bella suffered from a spinal-cord injury, Tara would not budge from her side until she was able to walk again. See for yourself folks, and I'd be surprised if you didn't shed a little tear . . .

Cute Alert: It's an El-Infant!

Keeping elephants in zoos is controversial. Some people say they shouldn't be in captivity, others say allowing people to see endangered animals makes them care about their continued survival. I don't know enough about it to say, but I do know that it's touching to see this tiny (by elephant standards!) baby elephant finally bonding with his mother, Rose-Tu (who had been a little rough with him at the beginning). Zookeepers kept watch to make sure that Rose-Tu was gentle with the little one and according to this news story, "The calf leaned against her wrinkled side, and she gathered him between her front legs, a sign of affection." Cute!

Just like all babies, baby Samudra, the 5-month-old elephant at the Oregon Zoo, likes to play. In this video, she's just hanging around with mom until someone throws her a blue ball. And off she goes! I love seeing the baby versions of big animals - clumsy and adorable.

PE: Meet the Fockers is one of my favorites! It cracks me up every time!

PE: Situational comedy - my family and life is weird enough.
