Exploring Guyspeak: "Dude"

I've been known to use the word "dude" every now and again- to refer to a dude. But in guyspeak, the word can be used as a noun, adjective, or verb. And in some instances, such as with the dude below, it suffices for the whole of one's vocabulary. Duuude.

It's that time again, ladies--DotComedy has brought us more Dudes In Bed! And guys, thanks for breaking out the worn out undies with saggy elastic. That's hot. I guess that's what we gals have to put up with to get a sneak peak into the world of men's conversations. Who knew they even spoke? I thought they just grunted and punched each other a lot.

Oh brah, this just has to be one of the best, like, interviews ever, dude. The news people are like, "wha?" and this surfer's like, "Ye-ah!" Meanwhile, I'm thinking the skin isn't the only part of the body that's damaged by too much exposure to the sun--his brain is officially fried.

Sunday Confessional: She Doesn't Want to Date a Virgin

This week's anonymous confession comes from the TrèsSugar Community group Confession Booth. This confessor finds herself worried about dating a vrigin. She explains:

"I am seeing an absolutely amazing guy. He's everything I've hoped for - honest, funny, charming, trustworthy, and insanely handsome. I feel like he's my reward for putting up with the worst examples of men this world has to offer. I feel so lucky and safe. I couldn't be happier! Oh wait . . . actually I could. There's one small issue that I'm afraid could be a huge issue for me. He's a virgin - and he plans to stay that way. I thought it wouldn't be an issue for me; it's nice to know a guy likes me for me and not just for sex! As we get closer I realize it will eventually be an issue for me. I like sex. Sex with someone I care about is awesome. I thought I could live without it, but now I'm not so sure. I feel like "such a dude," but I'm hesitating at the thought of continuing to see him. Am I a terrible person for needing sex in a relationship? Do I continue to date him and risk resenting him later? I don't know what to do or how to feel."

Introducing: Ask Two Guys About Guys

A few months ago, I stumbled upon the awesome book Don't Be That Guy, an illustrated book that delineated the myriad types of guys no guy should be.

There are the guys who verbally encourage themselves while working out at the gym, or guys who wear sunglasses at nonprofessional poker tournaments, or guys with Amish beards who aren't Amish (my personal fave). The list goes on.

In addition to being funny, Don't Be That Guy gave me a peek into the male psyche. It was refreshing to have a couple dudes honestly (and hilariously) list what bugs them about other guys. (I can't always be the one complaining about men!)

Well, lucky for us, writer Colin Nissan and illustrator Sean Farrell agreed to answer some nagging lady-questions for a few weeks (and maybe beyond?). So stay tuned for tomorrow's installment of Ask Two Guys About Guys, where the two guys explain the ancient mystery of why some men insist on masturbating even though they have regular sex partners. This should be fun!
