Stranger Than Fiction: Car Crashes Into Couple's Bedroom

Imagine if you will, sleeping soundly in your bed with your boyfriend. Maybe you're spooning, maybe he's snoring, you're dreaming of kittens ice-skating...whatever.

Suddenly, a car crashes through your bedroom. Motor fluid sprays in your now-awake faces as you both struggle to get out from under the weight of the car, which now lies on top of you.

Well, that's exactly what happened to two Nevada college students last week when a drunk driver, thinking he was headed into the home his ex-girlfriend now shares with a new boyfriend, drove instead into their bedroom at 4 a.m.

Only Trent Wood's lower body was pinned by the car, but his screaming girlfriend Kristin Palmer's entire body was pinned. In less than an hour, thanks to neighbors who called 911, emergency workers removed the car from the couple. Wood says he was ecstatic he and his girlfriend only suffered minor scrapes and burns, and not paralysis as he feared.

He told a reporter, "When you experience something like that there's no limits anymore, you can try to do whatever you want to do. We feel like we have more of a purpose, like we were meant to live." I bet the drunk driver, who is up sh*t creek without a paddle (or car), has the opposite sentiment.

Awkward! Toaster Gets Toasted

Among the many tips given to people who make toasts at wedding receptions - don't be long-winded, include witty anecdotes, mention those you are toasting by name and explain how you know them - it should go without saying that you shouldn't be a drunken fool while giving toasts.

That's just what happened at a wedding I attended, and unfortunately I ended up being embarrassed on behalf of the drunk toaster.

Here's how it went down. I reluctantly agreed to go to a friend's wedding even though her soon-to-be brother-in-law had just dumped me for an older woman. (It's a long story, but she'd set me up with - oh, let's call him Jake - and I kinda fell for him. Shortly after we realized it was never going to work, he began dating someone else.)

I didn't want to see Jake, in part because I was still hurting from the rejection, in part because I didn't want to see her, but there I was, trying to support my friend and keep a low profile.

No dice. Jake, a bigger drama queen than I, had to get stinkin' wasted during the wedding. After he gave a sweet toast, albeit filled with risqué jokes told in slurred speech, he began looking around the room - for me. "Hey, where's X? X should give a toast . . . Hey give a toast, X!" I cringed, blushed and then wanted to hide under the table when I saw what none of us wanted to believe was happening: his new girlfriend proceeded to throw coffee into his lap after he finally sat down.

Oh, sheesh. They began to argue, someone else tried to diffuse the situation, and I ran to the open bar for my own alcoholic beverage.

Dear Poll: Are You Prone to Drunk Dialing?

When you're crushing on someone, sometimes a little liquid courage is all you need to get things moving in the right direction. But when you reach for the phone after having a few too many, that momentary fearlessness could easily lead to total humiliation the next day. Nowadays we not only have to worry about drunk dialing, but we also need to keep drunk texting and drunk emailing in mind, which could do even more embarrassing damage than a simple missed call.

So even if you didn't fall victim to drunk dialing this weekend, tell me, are you prone to it?

Handle This: Your Date Is Buzzed!

If you were put in a situation like this, how would you handle it?

You finally met a guy that you were excited to go out with. A date was set and you were looking forward to it all week. He said he'd call you in the late afternoon to solidify your plans for the night, but when he called, you could tell that he was out someplace and it was pretty evident that he had been drinking. When you asked where he was, he told you that he stopped by the local pub to catch the football game with his buddies. He went on to say he was really excited to see you and asked when you'd be ready. Unfortunately you're instantly turned off - you weren't expecting to have to deal with a buzzed date, especially a buzzed first date!

Part of you wants to reschedule, but you're already in the going-out mindset, plus your calendar is almost completely booked up due to the holidays. You're torn, so how would you handle this?

Sunday Confessional: I Embarrassed My Boyfriend

After being unemployed for several months, my boyfriend finally landed the job he'd been pining for. To welcome him to the firm, his co-workers planned a happy hour at a pub nearby. My boyfriend invited me to join so I agreed to meet them after I left work.

I knew this was a big night for him and I was a little nervous, but I knew I had to be there for my boyfriend. All his co-workers were incredibly nice and we ended up having a great time. But since I hadn't eaten since lunch, I got tipsy pretty quickly. And when the shots started flowing, I went from being tipsy to being drunk. I don't remember much of the night other than having to run to the bathroom to get sick. I thought I was discrete about it, but one of my boyfriend's female co-workers was in the bathroom at the same time and witnessed the whole thing. I know things happen, and people make mistakes, but I have extreme guilt and shame for embarrassing my boyfriend in front of his new co-workers, especially during his first week on the job. Is my drunken indecency forgivable?

Beer Goggles Do Exist!

I just came across an article on MSNBC from earlier this month and it gave me quite a chuckle. The headline reads, "Hot or not? Look again -'beer goggles' are real!" Scientists in England are proving that beer goggles do exist. They gave 84 heterosexual college students lime-flavored drinks that were either alcoholic or non-alcoholic, a large glass of wine, or a pint-and-a-half of beer. After the booze set in, the students were given 40 images of other male and female college students. This probably won't come as a surprise to you, but both the men and women who drank the alcohol found the pictures of both sexes to be more attractive. According to Marcus Munafo, an experimental psychologist at the University of Bristol in England, it was "a roughly 10 percent increase in ratings of attractiveness."

Since alcohol generally makes people see things as more attractive over all (amongst other things that will be examined further in a future study), Munafo suggests that when put in a social situation such as a bar, "this might become targeted at opposite-sex faces." Group Therapy: My Boyfriend Accidentally Hit Me

I've been going out with my boyfriend for over two years. Last Sunday night we were out and we had both had a lot to drink. My brother was staying with us that night, so he was also out with us. When we got home, my boyfriend went straight to bed, and I hung out with my brother for a bit. When I went to bed, my boyfriend had wrapped all of the blankets around himself and refused to give me any. We ended up arguing over it, and my brother heard what was going on and came into the room. He told my boyfriend to stop being childish and for whatever reason, my boyfriend popped out of the bed and went for my brother. Of course I tried to stop him, and I ended up with a bloody nose and two black eyes.

I know this sounds cliched, but he is the best guy in the world. Everyone loves him, including my family and friends. He is heartbroken and ashamed of what he has done and realizes how serious it is. I have left him, but I'm now thinking of giving him a second chance because he promises he will never drink again. He wants to start therapy, and I'm convinced that he really means it when he says he won't drink anymore. What should I do?

Your Very Worst Drunk Text Message

The majority of you have fallen victim to the drunk dial, but what about the drunk text? I have to assume that if you're guilty of the drunk dial then you must be plagued with a few drunk texts here and there. It's really just an easier, less direct method of the same thing - next day humiliation. One of my friends even has "No Drunk Texts" as the banner on her cell phone.

I've received tons of jumbled text messages from drunk friends who can't even make out what they've written when I show it to them the next day; it's hard enough to speak clearly when you're in that state let alone type on a two-inch keyboard! So if you've done it, and I'm sure you have, what's the very worst - most embarrassing, rudest, incoherent, hilarious text message that you've sent drunk?

Sunday Confessional: I Called Out Some Other Guy's Name While Making Love

Last night I had some drinks (maybe too many) and while making love to my boyfriend of six months I yelled out someone else's name, multiple times! I don't remember any of it, which is really frustrating.

My boyfriend is amazing in bed and never leaves me unsatisfied. I've never fantasized about someone else while having sex with him, so I can't understand why I'd yell out someone else's name! I'm afraid this is going to end our relationship. Should I be forgiven for this drunken mistake?
