Dove has been running many campaigns all over the world to help promote women's self-confidence. Everywhere you look, Dove billboards show women stripped down to their skivvies, proving that beauty comes in all sizes, shapes, colors, and ages.
While I think it's an amazing message to portray, Dove's latest onslaught spot is raising a few eyebrows, and I can see why.

We've featured the "Dove Real Ugly" spoof, but here's the impetus for the legit Dove campaign. It's definitely not funny, but it's a step in the direction of raising awareness about the beauty industry's war on self-esteem. It's no secret that we love female writers around here at Sugar HQ, but according to Publishers Weekly, no book written by a woman was good enough to make the list of the top 10 titles of 2009. Maybe it's time for women to start taking masculine pen names again.
In response to the disappointing list, the group Women in Letters and Literary Arts (WILLA) has put together a list of books that were overlooked, written by authors like Lorrie Moore, Rita Dove, Margaret Atwood, Alice Munro, Mavis Gallant, and Alicia Ostriker.

Yesterday's New York Times Style Section dove into the lives of NYC's lifestyle gurus. According to the paper, trendsetting women in the city are finding enlightenment through veganism and meditation rather than a diet of cosmos and roof bar parties, and they're calling on "spiritual cowgirls" to show them the way.
These gurus charge around $100 an hour for their services, which often include distilling advice from the many self-help books they used to turn their own lives around.

Olympic swimming champ Michael Phelps dove into some hot water when he was photographed taking a bong hit, but that has not kept the 14-Olympic gold medal winning Adonis from keeping some lucrative endorsement deals, including some new Subway sandwich ads opposite Jared, the usual spokesperson.
But enough about the nonessential. Is this buff swimmer (who sometimes looks — to me—either totally hot, kinda douchey, or a tad dorky) a do, dump or marry?

Over the next few months comedian Wanda Sykes better figure out a way to make President Obama funny. Wanda revealed yesterday that she will host the annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner on May 9. No word yet if Heidi and Spencer will get an invite this year.
