Kris Jenner Laughs Along With Us at SNL Kardashian Spoof

This weekend Saturday Night Live aired a skit poking fun at Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries's divorce, which occurred after 72 days of marriage and just weeks after their much hyped televised wedding special. SNL's "Kardashian Divorce Special" features Nasim Pedrad as Kim and Kristen Wiig, who hilariously played Kris Jenner.

Despite the unflattering portrayal of herself as the cool mom trying to fit in with her daughters (not to mention the subject matter centering around Kim's divorce), Kris was a good sport about the skit. Kris told Access Hollywood it was "probably one of the funniest things I've ever seen in my life." She added, "I hate to admit it, but they had me spot on. I tell my kids, 'Don't take yourself too seriously.' We have a good sense of humor about ourselves and we were laughing right along with them. It was great."

Would You Wear a Divorce Ring?

We've heard of women transforming their engagement rings into new pieces of jewelry after a divorce, or even celebrating their newly single status with divorce parties, but the latest craze is women buying symbolic divorce rings.

We get that this is supposed to be an empowering thing, and maybe some women will be so excited and relieved to be free from their exes they'll be psyched to have a piece of jewelry representing their split. But on the other hand, wearing a ring of a broken heart split by a diamond bolt might look a little nuts. Like now when an eligible bachelor checks your ring finger to see if you're married, he'll see this design symbolizing your dead marriage. Hmm.

What "Real Men" Think About Money

Since money issues are the biggest cause of conflicts among couples, it's best to have a general sense of how men feel about certain money issues. AskMen.com came out with some results from its recent Modern Man Survey, which gave some great insight on how men today view certain hot money topics. Here are a couple of them:

Most of them are family men, power hungry, or Hugh Hefners. About 37 percent of the men think the ultimate male status symbol for the modern man is a family, while 29 percent say it's a high-profile career. However, 23 percent share Hugh Hefner-like sentiments of believing that a beautiful trophy wife is the ultimate status symbol.
A prenup isn't that important. Only 32 percent of men think a prenup is very or somewhat important. The rest don't think it's that big of a deal.
Men get "screwed" the worst in a divorce. Interestingly enough, although they don't think a prenup is important, 75 percent of the men believe that when the men get screwed the most is in courts during a divorce. About 20 percent believe women and men receive fair treatment, and only one percent thinks women get the worst of it. If they had a prenup, maybe the men would have a better peace of mind.
There is no rule of thumb for who pays for the date. Around 22 percent of the men think that they should be footing the bill for most of the dates until you're in a relationship. I'm assuming that they'll want to work out a more equal way to pay for dates once they're in exclusive relationships. A minority, 13 percent, believes that men should pay for all the dates, and 22 percent believe that women and men should pay equally from the get-go.
They love power women. It's nice to know that most men - about 85 percent - aren't intimidated by women who earn a higher income. Only seven percent say they aren't OK with women making more than them.

Marriages With Househusbands Are More Likely to End in Divorce

More and more women are holding their own, in terms of bringing home the bacon for the family. However, although the woman's financial role in a marriage has evolved, the old stigmas seem to persist in marriages. A new study by the American Journal of Sociology shows that if the husbands are unemployed, the marriage is more likely to end in divorce than if it were the other way around. The lead author of the study, Liana Sawyer, told Time's Healthland blog, "It's still unacceptable for men to stay home and take care of the kids."

It's not always the women who initiate divorce. The study also found that even unemployed men who were happy in the marriage choose to leave the marriage. Perhaps it's also due to the fact that men find it harder to deal with being without a job than women do because traditional norms dictate that men should provide for the family. Past research has also shown that men are more likely to get depressed than women when faced with unemployment, which can be a big factor in the breakup.

2 Good Ways (and 1 Not-So-Good Option) to Protect You and Your Money in a Relationship

You might think preparing for divorce will be jinxing yourself, but it's actually very practical and highly recommended by financial planners, according to the Wall Street Journal. Here are some options from the WSJ

Have a well-padded emergency fund: Treat divorce as an emergency expense and set aside some money that will buffer you through those times. Terry Headley, president of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, advises to set aside "four to six months' worth of the household income in pooled cash reserves to cover both spouses' costs."
Cohabitation agreements: This is becoming a more popular option for couples who are living together. The cohabitation agreements mirror prenups, but they are for those who aren't married. Some couples use these legal agreements to state who's paying for what in the relationship (such as groceries and cable bills), the consequences for cheating on your partner, and how to split the property after a separation. There are apparently a lot of same-sex couples who add in clauses to the cohabitation agreements that grant legal rights that traditionally come with marriages, such as hospital visitation rights.
Divorce and wedding insurance: If you've been paying for divorce or wedding insurance, you'll be covered if you have the misfortune of canceling your wedding or getting a divorce. This option isn't favored by a lot of the people because of the negative image it presents, and financial planners aren't fans as well. Glenn Daily, an insurance consultant, says the divorce fund or a good emergency fund would easily foot the expenses that the divorce or wedding insurance would cover and describes it as "insurance you could live without."

Jack White and Wife Throw Divorce Party Together

Divorce parties are nothing new, but what about throwing one with your soon-to-be ex? Former White Stripes front man Jack White and wife Karen Elson are doing just that! The couple sent out an invitation (see above) that could easily be mistaken for a wedding invitation if you didn't read the fine print: "Karen Elson + Jack White kindly request the presence of . . . at a party to celebrate their 6th anniversary, and their upcoming divorce with a positive swing bang hum dinger."

While my first reaction was that the event would just be too awkward for friends and family to go through, in their statement about the party it's clear they are doing it to have healthy, positive closure for the sake of their children. Game Over: Video Game Addiction Blamed For 15 Percent of Divorces

As if your obsessive Facebook habits weren't enough, a recent study performed by Divorce Online shows that 15 percent of divorces are due to a video game addiction; that's up from 5 percent the year before. Which games are causing the most trouble in marriages? Titles like World of Warcraft, Call of Duty, and Halo were cited most often, but casual Facebook games were also a sore spot in rocky unions. What's worse, symptoms of a video game addiction can be similar to those of a drug or gambling addiction. If it sounds scary, it's because it is - seclusion, obsessive behavior, sudden weight loss or gain, lack of personal hygiene, sleep deprivation, and even child neglect can not only cause problems at home, but in professional lives and legal arenas as well.

The Divorce Stories That Inspired the Movie Monogamy

Jane Eyre may be getting all the movie-release fuss, but there's another dark and stormy relationship film out today. Monogamy is about, well, pretty much everything but that, taking a Blue Valentine-like look at how love can self-destruct.

About a 30-something couple in Brooklyn, Monogamy takes us through the doomed engagement of Nat, a bride-to-be with a diminishing libido, and Theo, a bored wedding photographer who takes a side project as a paparazzo to ordinary people. So you can see where it's going, but what's better is how it started.

This weekend's New York Times Magazine talks to the film's director, Dana Adam Shapiro, who had been independently working on an oral history of divorce among 30-somethings. Over two years, he collected 50 interviews on how love splinters, and what he found were not angry, self-righteous people victimizing themselves, but thoughtful reflections on where they went wrong. People weren't good or bad, but flawed and trying to be good.
