Make It Work! White House Adjusts to Outdated Tech

Between President Obama's struggle and sort-of triumph to keep his BlackBerry and the West Wing's faltering email system - yesterday Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said it was down - it's a hardly a surprise to learn the White House is mired in cords and cables and 6-year-old computers.

Staff has traded in campaign MacBooks for desktops fitted with outdated Windows software, and the few laptops available are being rationed to very select staff. No Facebook. No IM. No Twitter. Not even wireless!

For a staff that relied on technology and social networking to win an election, White House employees will have to begrudgingly adjust to the loss of mobility. While it's done partly out of tradition, restrictions also ensure information is protected under the Presidential Records Act. Obama spokesman Bill Burton admitted, "It is kind of like going from an Xbox to an Atari." And that's the official line!

If America is going to lead the world, should its government have access to leading technology?

This or That: He Complained or He Exaggerated?

Your boyfriend is late getting back from the gym so you find yourself waiting for him at his place. You decide to hop on the computer to pass the time. His email is open on his desktop, and when you catch your name in one of the subject lines, you read through the message. You’re really upset to read your boyfriend’s comments to his brother about the first time you guys had sex (less than a week ago). Would it be worse if he…

This: Described how disappointed he was by your moves, and didn’t feel like you were feisty enough for him? He sure didn’t seem disappointed at the time!

Or…

That: Completely exaggerated what you guys had done, referring to you as a total freak who would do absolutely anything to please him, and describing sex moves you’ve never even heard of? You can’t help but wonder why he needs to lie.

Ladies, what would be worse in this situation?

I Want to Buy a Home Computer

I'd like to buy a home computer but I am not sure how to decide what kind to get. There are so many different choices; Laptops, Notebooks, Desktops, PCs, Mac, Sony, Gateway, Hewlett Packard, Dell etc . . . the list goes on and on. What are the important qualities to look for? Computer Geekette

It completely depends on what your needs are. Is this going to be for business, leisure or both? What kinds of programs do you want to run? Macs have better graphic design features, laptops are great if you travel a lot or if you like to hang (and blog) at coffee shops and cafes, Sony makes a memory chip so your media center (digital camera, movie camera, TV) can all be interconnected and Desktops are more bulky but you can have a larger screen if you have eye problems or prefer to have a wireless mouse and a larger work space. A good place to start your computer search is at Personal Computer World or at Oxford University's Computer Service Buyers Guide . Do a little bit of research before you actually go into a store or make an online purchase.

Group Therapy: Jealousy over Celebrity Bodies

It's springtime and I'm dating again. I have been seeing someone for a few weeks, and have visited his apartment where things got hot, but that's not what this post is about. His apartment is what I imagine an archetypal bachelor pad to be like; simple but clean, and lots of gadgets.. babe calendar included. It was such a turn-off to see the calendar with girls in bikinis on his wall.

Meanwhile, the desktop image on his computer is none other than Jessica Alba in a bikini. Mentally, it bothers me that he would participate in the commercial objectification of women in such a public way, but more importantly, emotionally I'm bothered because I do not look a thing like Jessica Alba! She is petite and has dark features and is skinny, whereas I am a tall blonde and I am fuller-figured. I have big breasts and big hips. To top it off.. I saw a quiz he took on what kind of body he is attracted to, and the results were "skinny and cute".. I'll always be cute but I'm never going to be stick-thin. Like I said, I have curves and I am tall. I workout and do yoga, so I have lean muscle-mass. Jessica Alba and I couldn't be more opposite..

I guess my point is.. how can I overcome jealousy towards an ideal-type? I know a lot of it involves dealing with my insecurity over my body, but I can't help but think that I'm not his ideal preference physically, given the evidence. He's a total catch in every way, except for this, and I want to get past this.. any advice?
