I've never been a fan of placing "trophies" above the mantle, but I'm a big fan of Buck. This deer was never alive in the great outdoors, but he knows how to liven things up indoors. Just throw him on a wall and he'll gladly sing songs and tell jokes. And if you don't like his selection, use the wireless microphone to tell your own bad jokes through him. His mouth and ears are designed to move along with the banter, so you'll never have to take credit for your own poor taste in music or inability to be funny. Orangina Ad Treats Animals Like Objectified Women

I was looking through the list of the UK's most complained about ads, when I came across a doozie. In an Orangina ad that upset those sensitive to sexism, creatures with female features dance provocatively in the forest.

A flamingo gets down on the stripper poll, and a deer gets dowsed in Orangina. Zebras ride massive bottles that shoot juice all over a bikini-clad bunny, and an octopus's breasts turn into juicy oranges. (All the animals are wearing bikinis, by the way.) The female animals are definitely oversexualized, but do you find it offensive?

5 Sex Lessons From the Animal Kingdom

A recent study shows that deer mice are monogamous and have "superior stress tolerance and blood sugar regulation." That would make us think that for humans, a monogamous relationship would prove to offer health benefits, but what else can we learn from the animal kingdom? Here are the first five of 10 sex lessons from a recent MSNBC article and my interpretation of each one. I'll warn you, some of these are a little out there, but enjoy!

Do not turn sex into warfare: If you nag your guy and pressure him into having intimacy, it'll drive him away and you both could end up unhappy.
Avoid weaponizing your penis: If a guy pierces his business or does anything else that may make sex painful to a woman, she won't want to engage in the act with him.

Try woman on top: Guys like to be on top so they can be in control of the speed and depth of intercourse. If the woman is on top though, there's a better chance sex will last longer, so she's more likely to have an orgasm. If she has an orgasm, the guy will end up feeling very proud and confident that he can please his lady. This in turn will translate to having sex more often. Win-win.
For a great afterglow, choose an orgy: I don't know about this one. Rats have been known to mate in groups and switch partners in the middle of copulation. While free love sounds fun, given today's rates of STIs, this just doesn't seem safe.
Gifts don’t always work: If you're having issues in the intimacy department, a dozen roses from the guy won't necessarily solve a sexual conflict.

Chew on This: Study Finds Herds Have a Built-in Compass

Next time you can't find the North Star, you might consider looking for the nearest pack of cows. A recent study of Google Earth satellite images found that herds of cattle gravitate to face in the north-south direction of Earth's magnetic lines. The study also noted some types of deer have shown the same pattern, according to the BBC.

Many smaller species, such as birds and salmon, are known to use the earth's magnetic fields in seasonal migration; however, these recent findings show larger mammals have a similar internal sense of direction.

The researchers surveyed Google Earth images of 8,510 grazing and resting cattle in 308 pasture plains across the world. Apparently, it was often hard for them to distinguish heads from tails, but they were able to determine that animals tend to face either north or south.

The study ruled out the possibility that the sun or wind direction were major factors in the orientation of the cattle. A sensory biologist from Virginia Tech University points out scientists still need to consider what benefit this "sixth magnetic sense" might provide for mammals.

Beijing Gets an Olympic-Sized Makeover: In 8 Easy Steps!

Beijing will be dressed to impress this August when the world turns its attention east for the Summer Olympics. Radar lists eight changes in its July/August issue that China is making to ensure the city is picture perfect when the cameras go on.

Reduced traffic
To avoid unsightly traffic, the Chinese government will only let half of Beijing's drivers on its streets. How will they decide who gets to drive? Even- and odd-numbered license plates will alternate days. See, life is fair.
Less spitting
China's government is known for its oppressive quirks, but that does not include prohibiting spitting in the street. Until now. Fines and tissues will be handed to the defiant.
Fewer felines
Apparently, Beijing is like one giant cat lady. And that never did my image any good, so I can see why China is concerned. To reduce the city's overpopulated kitty sidewalks, the government launched an aggressive campaign to ensure people know the truth about cats. You know, like how they carry SARS. Scared pet owners have been sending their beloved fluffies to cat death camps.

You know what they say! It never rains in Beijing when they hire scientists to shoot silver iodide-filled rockets into clouds from 21 locations to preempt summer showers.
No knockoffs
Take your counterfeit Olympic gear back to Canal Street. Officials are patrolling the streets, particularly looking out for unauthorized use of the Olympic logo. Make sure your new mug has all five Olympic rings!
Orderly lines
Since China is a Communist country, it surprises me that standing in line never really took off. But there you have it. Preferring to nudge their way to the front, Beijingers have been learning the letter queue for over a year now with monthly, government-induced practice.
No turtle blood
Competitive athletes take note: Turtle blood - and deer penis - can be used as performance-enhancing drugs. Just not in Beijing this August.
No Chinglish
Bad translations can be so much fun - "slip and fall down carefully" - but for a city in primping mode they are an embarrassment. Unfortunately, a 35-person committee is "caretaking" this problem.

Looks like once they get these eight woes under control, they'll be good to go for 08/08/08 . . . right? Are cosmetic changes like these eclipsing the greater human rights concerns? If China is shiny on the outside, will people overlook deeper trouble?
