Scientists are now advising professional male cyclists to freeze their sperm before they begin their careers. It seems that the rigorous training causes a dramatic drop in sperm quality. Factors like heat from the tight clothing, friction of the testes against the saddle, and stresses on the body from the physical demands of the sport could all be responsible for the increased risk of infertility.

Over the years I've heard a lot of reasons for male infertility. I decided to do a little research and I've rounded up some lifestyle practices that can lead to it. (I've added a few fake examples, too!) Find out if you can spot the real from the fake and be sure to tell all your guy friends how to spare their sperm!

Earlier this week the Israeli government voted down a bill, which would have funded procycling projects. So last night naked cyclists rode around Tel Aviv as part of a nighttime protest, calling on the government to support cycling. Hey, at least they saved their nudity for after dark! One of these days I want someone to find out if all these nude protests actually get results.

China's Dislike of Activism Unmasked - Officials Revoke Visa

The Chinese government has a short fuse when it comes to tolerating activist-athletes. Chinese officials revoked the visa of Joey Cheek, a gold-medal speedskater and co-founder of Team Darfur. Cheek, who won the gold at the 2006 Olympics, helped create the organization of athletes dedicated to ending human rights violations in the Darfur region of Sudan. China has come under fire for its human rights policies and for purchasing large amounts of oil from Sudan.

And perhaps not wanting to be booted out of China themselves, the four US cyclists who wore black pollution masks over their noses and mouths in the Beijing airport have apologized. The US Olympic Committee chief said the athletes sent a written apology to the Beijing Organizing Committee because "they've now seen how their actions have been perceived. They were very eager to take the right action, which was to apologize to their hosts." Do you think an apology was in order?

The US Olympic team has chosen a Sudanese refugee to carry the American flag at the Beijing Opening Ceremonies. I wonder how China feels about that.

Removing All Traffic Laws Makes Town Safer! Make Sense?

A town in Germany has abolished all traffic laws, signs, and crosswalks. Sound like a recipe for bumper cars meets demolition derby? Not according to town officials. In fact, getting rid of all the laws has had the exact opposite effect - by allowing drivers and pedestrians to make all of their own decisions about what's safe, one stretch of road that used to see 45 accidents a year and traffic jams, has become smooth and safe, and drivers have slowed down overall.

The plan is called "Share Space" and exists in towns in England and Holland as well. The idea is that everyone on the road including pedestrians and cyclists have equal rights - no sidewalks even! Local police say that without rules, people - wait for it - think for themselves (!) and communicate more and assume the responsibility of powering a huge pile of metal. Though locals say it took a bit to get used to the freedom and responsibility, it's increased safety and renewed a village-y atmosphere.

Does it make sense that by removing laws intended to increase safety, lawlessness actually makes a bigger difference? Could this phenomenon apply to other places and types of laws as well? Should it?
