A cooties epidemic is sweeping playgrounds across America and taking its little victims down with it. The social stigma attached to the highly contagious infection isn't helping. The result? Silence, shame, and misunderstanding among school-aged children. What can be done? Speak to your kids about cooties. Get them tested. A cootie-free tomorrow is only a cootie shot away.

Teaching Five Year Olds Not to Beat Their Wives

Their future wives, that is. In a proposed program generating buzz in the UK, students as young as five would be educated about the evils of domestic violence.

The potential lessons are part of a broad national initiative aimed at reducing violence against women and teaching kids how to maintain healthy relationships without resorting to violence. Here's more:

The lessons will be part of the National Curriculum and are likely to be taught in personal, social and health education classes, which are attended by children from the age of five.

Teachers will also be given new guidance on tackling "gender bullying."

Opponents of the plan argue that men are twice as likely as women to become victims of violence, and because 25 percent of the violent crimes in England and Wales are committed by women, why should boys be singled out?

Whether they're male or female, I don't think it hurts to educate kids about finding nonviolent ways to solve their problems. And though it seems a bit counterintuitive to teach boys how to treat their wives at an age when they still think girls have cooties, I don't think five is too young to start, either. What do you think about this idea?

Bed Bugs

Dear Sugar
My boyfriend is a 4th year medical student so we hardly get to see each other. The weeks he is on call are tough, and when he's not, he's catching up on sleep or studies. For our anniversary, I surprised him with a basket of food and nurse inspired lingerie at the hospital. The night was just what the doctor ordered...a home cooked meal instead of hospital food and a little patient doctor role play in room 206! He was elated and I knew it was the best anniversary present I could have gotten him. But ever since that night, our bodies have been itching like crazy. It turns out that we have bed bugs from the hospital bed! GROSS! I am worried about my health and I am also embarrassed that someone will find out. Does it mean that I am dirty? I literally have cooties. Bugging Out

Of course it doesn't mean that you are dirty or have cooties. This is just an unfortunate circumstance. Also, if it makes you feel better, there is no need to be alarmed about health risks. Bed bugs are not considered a serious disease threat. But do take action to get rid of them ASAP. They lay eggs quickly and begin to feed on you once the eggs hatch. You don't want to mess around with these little buggers. As far as feeling embarrassed, you should be more concerned that room 206 doesn't have video cameras. I can only wonder if your role play involved full body check ups. Make sure you thoroughly treat all of your body parts!

We've been following the president's various ratings, and this one has a historical context that grabbed me. According to a brand new CNN poll, George Bush has cooties.

CNN Polling Director Keating Holland says of the results, "No president has ever had a higher disapproval rating in any CNN or Gallup poll; in fact, this is the first time that any president's disapproval rating has cracked the 70 percent mark."

He's not in the worst shape historically: "Bush's approval rating, which stands at 28 percent in our new poll, remains better than the all-time lows set by Harry Truman and Richard Nixon (22 percent and 24 percent, respectively) but even those two presidents never got a disapproval rating in the 70s." Who's the worst? "The previous all-time record in CNN or Gallup polling was set by Truman, 66 percent disapproval in January 1952."

Oh, but then there's this nugget: "He is more unpopular than Richard Nixon was just before he resigned from the presidency in August 1974," says CNN Senior Political Analyst Bill Schneider. How does Bush measure up? President Nixon's disapproval rating in August 1974 stood at 67 percent.

Less popular than Nixon right before he resigned? Nuts! So where do you fall?

If you ain't too keen on PDAs, then look away. We got a long line of NYC love birds waiting around to demonstrate their pucker power to the individuals on each side of them. Is this some sort of a kiss relay race? No clue. But judging from these mini make-out moments, no one is in a rush and they all seem to enjoy their time aboard this cootie train. Have I mentioned? I heart NY.

Weirdest Song Ever

Introducing "Chocolate Rain"--not to be confused with Purple Rain. (As if!) The amateur Tay Zonday is about as far away from Prince as anyone could be. In this bizarre video, he sings into the mic as if it has cooties, his voice does not match his appearance (dubbed?), and you're too busy trying to figure out what the heck is going on to really take in the strange lyrics. Not sure if I can handle a second viewing, though, so maybe you guys could help a Giggle out? WTF?!
