How Do You Feel About a Mass-Market Indie CD?

Here's a little something to chew on as you roll into the weekend: A Now-style compilation CD of indie tunes is hitting stores this month. The track list includes songs from Sonic Youth, Neko Case, Deerhoof, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, The Hold Steady and others.

A couple things about this strike me as funny. For one, a whole bunch of the songs are from 2006, which I'm pretty sure means they're not "next." And second, who exactly is supposed to be buying this? I can't imagine any self-respecting fan of the included artists deigning to buy the compilation, and I'm not sure your average Target shopper would pick this up, think, "Hmm, I've always wondered what this 'indie music' is all about!" and toss it into the cart. What's your take?

The Ultimate Baby Vs. Lemon Compilation

You'd have to be a serious sourpuss not to giggle during this one. We've seen a few of these taste-tasting tots before, but most are new (lemon fresh?) and equally as entertaining. My fave is the curly haired cutie in the beginning who throws down the lemon in disgust and then throws a diva tantrum. (What I want to know is, why is everyone feeding their babies lemons? Did I miss the news on the scurvy epidemic?!)

Condé Nast will publish a compilation of the magazine's best home-decorating stories, highlighting tricks and tips for easy and affordable ways to dramatically change the look of your home.

Condé Nast editorial director Thomas J. Wallace noted in a press release that "this special edition of Domino is another example of Condé Nast’s objective to bring brands to life across multiple platforms, and give consumers more of what they love in new and exciting ways. Domino Quick Fixes will be a treasure trove of useful and creative information, and a must-read for any Domino fan."

Whether it's sprucing up a tired piece of furniture or breaking down the steps for more elaborate DIYs, like painting a stairwell, the publication will be full of inspiring ideas for weekend warriors. Domino Quick Fixes will be available on national newsstands from April 17 through July 16, 2012, for $11. With student loan costs rising to astronomic levels, those on a quest for learning may be forced to find less expensive alternatives outside the traditional classroom. Thank your lucky stars for iTunes U's free online classes, now neatly compiled into an awesome iPad app so you can take your lessons on the go. Apple announced the new iTunes U iPad app this morning during its education-themed event (learn more about their iBooks 2 and iBooks Author apps as well) that brings together hundreds of open courses and lectures from some of the most prestigious colleges from around the globe. Free classes from ivy league schools? Don't mind if I do.

The iTunes U app is free to download and the classes are free to take and stream, so what do you have to lose?
