Cirque du Soleil turns 25 years old this year - a quarter of a century of amazing acrobatics, over-the-top costumes, and praise-worthy showmanship. If you've ever been to one of Cirque's shows, you know it's all about the theatrics. Lots and lots of it! Colorful stripes, silly polka dots, top hats, sequins, feathers, bow ties, and ballet slippers are all part of the freaky fun. For makeup ideas, check out Bella's 21 hair and makeup looks you WON'T be wearing come Spring. And unlike everyday life, you can pile on all these things on Oct. 31; the more, the freakier.

With an all-star cast including The Psychologist, Mr. Giggles (the man who is at once her tormenter and her savior), and Parsley, the loyal, wisecracking sidekick who will see her through to the end - Operation Send in the Clowns is not a video you will soon forget. Thirsty Clown Urinal

Peeing is now a novelty act! Our innovative friends in Japan made an arcade game out of a simple visit to the urinal. A dude stands and pees into the mouth of a moving clown while creepy circus music plays along- for atmosphere, I suppose. All "eww!" aside, this just ain't practical. Men have a terrible time keeping aim and staying on target when the loo is stationary, so this is asking for a mess. . .but I guess that's the point of the game.

Group of Clowns Among Iraqi Refugees Fleeing Violence

The Happy Family Clown Group recently fled Iraq after two of its members were senselessly murdered. Unsure of why they were targeted, the three remaining clowns sought exile in Syria, a country that receives 1,000 Iraqis refugees each day.

The Iraqi clowns registered with the United Nation's refugee agency (UNHCR). They now are making the most of their exile, working with the UNHCR and performing their show "A Child Is as Scared as a Country" for refugee children.

The UN estimates that 4.2 million Iraqis have left their homes. Approximately 1 million live a difficult life in Syria, where they cannot work legally. Many would love to return to Iraq, but like the Happy Family Clown Group, they fear for their safety and their lives. For some comprehensive information on the refugee situation in Iraq, check out the UNHCR's Iraq refugee site. You know the violence is bad when clowns are the targets.

Kiddie Soiree: Bozo Gets Clowned

I think it's creepy when horror movies incorporate circus music and clown images into their scary scenes. Though I don't mind clowns, I've seen a fair share of kids freak out the second they saw Bozo.

So it's not too surprising that the Nursing Standard magazine reports that children are afraid of clowns.

Researchers from the University of Sheffield asked 250 children ages four through 16 whether they liked the use of clowns. All of them said they found clowns scary.

Penny Curtis, a senior lecturer in research at the university said,

"We found that clowns are universally disliked by children. Some found them quite frightening and unknowable."

So before you book entertainment for your babe's next birthday, you might think twice about the options.

Flashback: Captain Creepmeister McDonald

Is it just me, or did this vintage McDonald's ad send children a questionable message? Something like, "Hey kids, don't talk or accept gifts from strangers, unless those strangers push food on you and identify themselves as Ronald McDonald!" And then all the little kiddies skip off into the sunset with potentially deranged impostors . . .
