Mar 26 2008 - 1:00pm Well this only-in-California story involves Clint Eastwood, a Kennedy, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and environmentalists. Governor Schwarzenegger let go conservationist/ex-mayor/actor/director/producer Clint Eastwood from his position as a California park commissioner. Arnold's brother-in-law, Bobby Shriver, also got terminated.

7Hmmm, closeing State Parks to budget the state? What's that saying? "You gotta spend money to make money." Of course, I don't know about these parks he's closing. (I could look them all up and read about them) I don't live in California. Maybe they don't bring in any tourists, or give locals a place to spend money, or promote outdoor activities. All those things help bring up the economy. Don't they? I know our little town would be bruised without our little, but well frequented state park. I do really like Arnold and Clint too. I just don't think it makes sense to close recreation.

I live in LA and go frequently to Will Rogers park, which is being closed this next month. There are always tons of people there walking and hiking on the trails, riding horses, playing soccer or picnicing on the large field. You have to pay to park there, and so they do make money.
Arnold is also cutting school funding and money for hospitals, which are already in shambles anyway. I am quite scared of what things will look like after his cuts take place. I am also surprised that he didn't work to get a better deal with the Indian Casinos that we allowed to have more slots.
10Well that's what I mean. All the people driving there, the gas station/s near by get money. Shops close by- tourists spending money. Grocery stores for campers, picnics. Watersports merchandise. All that will be effected without your parks and recreation. Pay for parking is a little too, but it's mostly all the businesses around there that will be effected. Not to mention the encouragement for young people to have a healthy recreation. If any of the parks are near or in rural areas, we could go off into a whole other list of concerns, plus their economy being effected.
11I meant that I don't live there, so I don't really know the layout. I don't know the parks there and I don't know all the issues. What I do know is that recreation parks can be a BIG deal.
