Notice his congregation is sitting very, very still. Probably because they're trying to figure out the quickest way to make a run for it without being noticed...

Youth Pastor Makes A Freudian Slip

While preaching to an eager young congregation about Sodom and Gomorrah (of all things), this pastor got tongue-tied and turned the act of pitching a tent (literally) into something the church would never condone, even as a Freudian slip. (We won't even address the double entendre in what he was trying to say.) So much for a career in youth ministry. And did I hear him use Someone's name in vain at one point?

There's so much weirdness going on here I don't know where to start. First, let me say to Amy Winehouse: Congrats on your Grammy wins. Although people have been commenting on your strange dancing and odd behavior last night, it sure was an improvement on your past cracked-out performances. Example: your duet on The Charlotte Church show with Miss Goodie Two-Shoes herself to sing . . . Michael Jackson's "Beat It." Pause. Scratch head. This should be turned into a game: Two points for every line Amy sings that we can actually understand.

Perhaps those lines on either side of the cross are just for decoration, or maybe they're supposed to symbolize spiritual radiance. But they look so much like quotation marks, I can't help but wonder if this is some unholy operation masquerading as a "church."

Video: Don't Let God Be a College Casualty

When I came across this video, I couldn't tell if it was satirical or serious. In it, sweet Kim leaves for college after saying goodbye to her parents and boyfriend. Nine months later, she returns pregnant, angry, and spouting off information about the South American rain forests.

At the end, the dad reveals the video's purpose: it's an ad for College Weekend Workshop, a course broadcast live over the Internet and into churches with the purpose of preparing Christian students for college so they can get a degree without losing the faith. College Weekend Workshop says that too often, saying yes to college means saying no to God.

Using some confusing humor, the group wants to tap into parents' fears that their children will come back from college completely different. (Namely, radical feminist, heavy metal, spiritual hippie types.) Parents need not fear, though, because there is a way to continue to influence your kids' values. All you have to do is sign up for (and pay for) the workshop!

Do you think there's some value in reinforcing an adolescent's beliefs, or should young adults be encouraged to think for themselves?

Are You There God? Bill Maher Sells Doubt in Religulous

A wordplay on ridiculous, Bill Maher's new docu-comedy Religulous found its calling this weekend when it opened across the country. It grossed a modest $3.5 million and ranked number 10 at the box office, but I suspect many people will have an opinion regardless of whether they see it.

Directed by Larry Charles of Borat and Curb Your Enthusiasm, Religulous will remind you of everyone's favorite Kazakhstani roaming around America, exposing isms and making enemies. It adopts the same wanderlust quality and lets Maher loose in the US, Europe, and Middle East to humiliate unsuspecting people.

I decided to check out the movie this weekend so I could report back to you today. To find out what I thought, read more.

I keep hearing that Maher can't expect to appeal to religious people by belittling them, but I don't think that's his goal. He's not talking to them. He's talking to the 16 percent of Americans that consider themselves nonreligious - challenging them to talk openly about doubt.

In the doc, Maher interviews Christians, Jews, and Muslims, most of whom are easy targets for comedy. Here are a few that stood out.

Senator Mark Pryor (AK-D): This senator may never live down saying, "You don't need to pass an IQ test to be in the Senate." Guess not!
José Luis de Jesús Miranda (Messiah in Miami): José believes Jesus's lineage moved through Europe until it reached Spain and then made the voyage to Puerto Rico, where he was born. People should follow him over Jesus, he says, because Jesus was Jewish and he is Christian.
Roman Catholic Priest (Vatican): I could have watched this man for the whole movie. He laughs. And laughs. And genuinely seems amused by illogical teachings and contradictions in the Catholic Church. Unfortunately, Maher does not dig enough to learn how he rationalizes the two. The priest does leave us these words: People are going to believe what they want, and then they'll die. Amen.

I wish we heard more from the skeptical devout like the Vatican priest. In fact, I had hoped Maher would interview Stephen Colbert (real-life Stephen, though fake would do). Colbert's a practicing Catholic (he even teaches Sunday School) who would appreciate the irreverent humor and, unlike most of Maher's victims, be savvy enough to keep up. But when it was over, I was really only fixated on one fact. Did you know there's a theme park in Orlando called The Holy Land? There you can experience the "wonder of ancient Israel."

JV: I am half from Atlanta and half from Northern, Central, and Southern Ohio.

JV: I am the #1 Flight Attendant in the Universe. This is a true story. I am sure you have heard about it.

GS: How would you describe your sense of humor?
JV: I think I have a dry sense of humor, however, I also enjoy a good fart joke....so I have the sense of a humor of a 12 year old boy.

GS: What's your fave GiggleSugar post?
JV: I LOVE "Average Homeboy" Blazin Hazen....he deserves many medals and ribbons for his bravery and talent.

JV: Jimmy Fallon and Amy Poehler.

JV: Legally Blond, Clueless, Miss Congeniality, Bring It On.

GS: If your life were a comedy, what would it be?
JV: I don't think the comedy has been written to describe my life. It is a true story and it MUST be told, maybe I will write it so I can win even MORE awards and medals.

GS: Do you ever get told you look like someone famous?
JV: I am a dead ringer for Alyssa Milano. I mean, our baby pics. So like 27 years ago, we could have been twins.

GiggleSugar Reader Spotlight: Moni B

Our GiggleSugar spotlight shines this week on Moni B, shown here standing next to a chicken in a suit and a giant ear of corn (naturally). When she isn't studying her socks off at Brown University as a sociology student, she's posting witty comments on GiggleSugar. (I'm sure she has other activities to entertain her, but this is one of our faves.) Let's hear from her in her own words, and be sure to check out the gallery of images at the end of the interview.

GS: What is your motto?
MB: "I'll be everything you taught me" from "One Sweet Day" by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men in memory of my high school senior English teacher. He died at the end of my first semester of my freshman year of college. He truly believed in me and treated me like I was his own daughter. I took it upon myself to do my best in his honor. (GS: What a touching tribute to his memory, Moni B! He'd be proud.)

GS:Where are you from? MB: Born and raised in Pawtucket, Rhode Island (birth of the American Industrial Revolution!) Now I'm in Providence, RI.

GS: What do you do? MB: I'm a full time college student at Brown University, candidate for a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology.

GS: How would you describe your sense of humor? MB: A little bit of sarcasm and a whole lot of silly! (GS: Can I steal that as our motto? Sounds about right!)

GS: What's your favorite GiggleSugar post? MB: Best Music Video of 2006- OK GO's "Here It Goes Again" and usually any Family Guy clip...LOVE Family Guy.

GS: Who's the cutest funny man and woman? MB: Hands down: Dane Cook. For woman it's a little harder, but definitely Drew Barrymore.

GS: Who are your favorite comedians? MB: Here are my staples: Robin Williams, Dane Cook, Greg Proops, Mitch Hedberg and Eddie Izzard.

GS: What's your favorite comedy? MB: Too many to mention. A good rule of thumb is if it has anyone from the Frat Pack, I'll dig it. Adam Sandler is also a plus. I also like, Super Troopers and Broken Lizard's Beer Fest. I'm anxiously awaiting Super Troopers 2...which reminds me...I want to go bookmark some Super Troopers clips to spread the giggles!

GS: If your life were a comedy, what would it be? MB: It would probably be based around quirky, silly things that happen to me every day. There's always something amusing that goes on, from blond moments to shared humorous moments with friends and coworkers. (GS: May I suggest Legally Blonde?)

GS: Do you ever get told you look like someone famous? MB: When I was younger, apparently I looked a little like Charlotte Church, but that's the end of it. And that was based on one person. So probably very little significance.

Free-for-all. About me: Moni B = Monica. 20 years old. College student/ dog lover/ reading enthusiast/ sushi addict/ health nut/ tech nerd/ I can't believe I'm doing this instead of doing homework for tomorrow.

GS: When are you online for other readers to chat with? MB: It really varies. I have such a hectic school schedule I hop on whenever I can. Ballpark estimate: usually at night.
