Chris Matthews Stays on MSNBC, Howard Dean to CNBC?

Chris Matthews has renewed his contract with MSNBC to stay on another four years. That means we'll be treated to Chris's totally unbiased (wink) political coverage during the 2012 election!

Meanwhile, a new cable news personality is being born on CNBC. Perhaps ready to trust in someone other than Jim Cramer, CNBC has signed on Howard Dean as a regular contributor for business news.

Dean, like Cramer, is infamous for enthusiastically screaming into the camera, and he worked on Wall Street for a bit after graduating college. Dean also was an early critic of business practices that help create the financial crisis.

Both Matthews and Dean have dreams of public office - Chris hinted at a Senate run, and we all know Howard was willing and able to serve in the Obama administration. Are you happy to see these two on TV instead of in office?

Blogging For Nothing: Matthews Rejects Blogs as Sources

Chris Matthews has limits! When he's not saying things like MSNBC "is the network of the 21st century," he's upholding archaic journalism standards.

Last night on Hardball, he cut off a reporter from the NY Daily News when she introduced blogs as the source of rumors - and, yes, she clearly presented them as rumors - about Caroline Kennedy. He said, "Let's stick to journalism. I don't do that here. If it's just blogging, let's drop it."

Bringing us to the - when did blogs become big, 2002? - 7-year-old question: Do blogs have any place in news? I thought it was answered with a "yes if used properly" at least five years ago. Apparently not!

Should Chris Matthews get with the times, or should more journalists follow his (albeit one-time) return to old-school journalism?

For the 21st year in a row, the Media Research Center has rounded up Notable Quotables. The conservative media watchdog group typically chronicles the perceived liberal media bias. This year, winners were selected for categories such as: The Obamagasm Award, Pummeling Palin Award, Obamalot Award, and Pay Up Patriots Award.

Here's who won the Quote of the Year Award:

As my love/hate relationship with political MSNBC host Chris Matthews continues, Media Matters has chronicled the downs of our up-and-down affair. Media Matters, an online nonprofit, monitors and analyzes misinformation in the US media. Repeat offender Chris Matthews has his very own page. Some of the recent highlights:

On April 25: Sen. Barack Obama "can't walk into a dinette [sic] with five or six guys there, white guys, in some cases. He can't just shake hands and hang out."
On April 22: One of the grandees of the party would say "we need some ethnic balance. He's got that interesting, sort of Middle Eastern Hussein in his name. Let's put a Jewish running mate with this guy."
On March 31: Regarding Obama's bowling form, "it isn't the most macho form there, I must say, but who knows?"

Lighten Up: Chris Matthews Hints at Senate Run on Colbert

Big, bad, tangerine Chris Matthews (though I was just looking at some old pictures of him - he looks thinner and younger than he did five years ago! Maybe TV news is the fountain of hot?) was on The Colbert Report last night, where he dodged the big nail down about a possible run for Sen. Arlen Specter's seat in 2010.

The Senate-run talk is great, but God bless Colbert, "I swing a harder ball than you"? "You've put me to sleep at 6 o'clock before"? Let it be said here first, forget Matthews - Colbert for Senate!

Did you ever want to be something your whole life, besides this? When you grow up, some kids want to be a fireman. I want to be a Senator. But I have to deal with these things as they come. . . . There's a difference between being a celebrity and someone who works for the people. And it's a greater thing to work for the people than being on television.

Lighten Up: The Daily Show Winds Up the Obama Clock

Chris Wallace, the guy who criticized his own network because he thought his fellow Fox-ians were being too harsh on Obama, has started the "Obama said he was coming to Fox News Sunday and he hasn't and we are going to try to shame him into it with a digital count down graphic" clock.

Jon Stewart has a few things to say about that - but the real goods come at ol' Tangerine Chris Matthews expense. Check out the mash-up of his "how's it feel to be the black kid of a white mom" interview from earlier this week. Point: Obama.
