Flashback: Cheaters, the Most Trashtastic Reality TV Show Ever

Back in the day when I watched waaay too much television, I couldn't even justify it by saying I was watching the good stuff. If anything, I watched the worst television had to offer. Take Cheaters, the reality television show hosted by smarmy Joey Greco.

The premise was simple. Tail some guy or gal who was stepping out on their significant other, show the horrified cheatee the video evidence, and ask the wronged person what they wanted to do. The magic words I longed to hear? "I want to confront him." In this clip, Joey works his magic as he leads this poor woman into a blow-by-blow account of her boyfriend's cheating, accompanied by his transparently fake concern for her. In one infamous episode, Joey got his: a cheater actually stabs him, and they aired the episode! Ah, the good ol' days. Bring back Cheaters!

While I was watching some dude sing about the day his wife met his girlfriend and all the marital strife that followed, I happened to notice the following advertisement pop up at the bottom of the vid for - prepare yourself - AffairMatch.com. This married personals site prides itself on being a "discreet sanctuary for lonely wives and cheating husbands." Ahem, running banner ads all over the net isn't exactly what I'd call "discreet," but this site isn't in the business of upholding promises anyway. So much for that fairy-tale ending . . .

Chou Chou the bunny has a lot to say about my fave show "Cheaters" and the ~~Renaissance Man~~ douchebag who hosts it, Joey Greco. "Why is there a show," Chou Chou asks with the gravity of Aristotle, "where they track down cheaters and then film them for you and me?" My boyfriend and I have lived together for over 3 years now. A year ago I found out that 2 weeks into our relationship he cheated on me. From what i know.. It has not happened again... And he HAS changed his lifestyle completely. He used to be a party animal, and now he is completely focused on his career and a life with me. Is it true that once a guy cheats he WILL do it again?

Serial Cheaters: Sex Addicts or Just Jerks?

I'm not a big sports fan, but I sure did hear about the big scandal with ESPN sports analyst Steve Phillips. He cheated on his wife with a young production assistant who became unhinged, messed with his family, and the result, not surprisingly, is that he lost his job, and his wife has filed for divorce.

Now that Phillips's life is in a shambles, he's checked into a rehab clinic for sex addiction. People are divided on whether or not this is a real affliction. Some say it's just a way for serial cheaters to hide their sociopathic behavior under a rubric - addiction - that may garner more sympathy from others.

Some therapists, on the other hand, think it's on par with gambling or drug and alcohol addictions. They say that sex addicts use sex for the same reasons other addicts use their drugs: to numb emotional pain or feelings of emptiness, to feel attractive or powerful, or to engage in high-risk behavior that masks underlying depression.

What do you think about serial cheaters who subsequently claim they're sex addicts? Are they sex addicts, or just jerks?
