Behold! The Beef Jerky Chanel Bag

Why stash beef jerky in your bag when you can just chew it right off your bag! (I would kill to see a well-dressed woman doing that on public transportation - imagine the reactions!) Created by design student genius Nancy Wu at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA, this 100-percent Beef Jerky Chanel bag project is a commentary of sorts on designer accessories. Everyone Needs A Little Chanel

Dear Sugar
I just saw the movie Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous with Sandra Bullock. She is wearing the most amazing Chanel sunglasses! I don't know if you've seen the movie, seems like not many people did but the sunglasses she wears are the type that I've been looking for. They are very Jackie O, square frames, black on black. If by any chance you saw the movie, she wears the sunglasses when she comes out of her limo at the airport and finds out that Regina King's character will be her bodyguard on her trip to Vegas. Well if you have seen the movie and know what I'm talking about, I would love to find out what style number they are. Need my Chanels

I am sad to say those glasses were discontinued. The style number was 5019. But don't worry! Since they were so popular, they did come out with something very similar, and that style number is 5061. The retail for $250. There is limited availibilty in the Chanel boutiques (they came out in 2003) so if you can't find them there, you can order them directly from a boutique that carries them. If you would prefer to try them on before buying them, your best bet is to look in department stores. Unfortunately, you can not order them online.

Look Who Will Be at Fashion Week: The Snuggie!

Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel, and Rodarte are going to have to save some space on the runway during New York Fashion Week, because the folks who brought you the Snuggie - you know, the blanket with sleeves! - are going to stage a runway show of their own “to showcase the latest colors, fabrics, and patterns” and “to dish about the sexiest looks in blanket-wear.”

That’s right - blanket-wear. Not only are the Snuggie peeps considering comfort when designing for women, they’re thumbing their noses at the size barrier that keeps some models off the runway. Their models aren’t all statuesque and size zero; in fact, they’re not necessarily even human! In addition to male and female adult models, the Snuggie fashion show will feature children and even dogs on the runway.

I wonder if Anna Wintour is going to get a front-row seat at this show!

I have promised to change things many times, but I just can't, even though I desperately want to. I'm afraid I've damaged things too much. Dear Wanting to Change Chanel,

The fact that you're aware that you're the cause of these arguments, yet you still start them, leads me to believe there is a whole lot more going on here. Are you rocking the boat to get attention from your boyfriend? Are you doing it because you like making up with him? If there really is no good reason, I advise you to try harder to put a stop to them because if you don't, you just might push him to the breaking point.

The only way he'll know how much you care is by you showing him and putting forth the effort to change. Tell him how much you love him, and do whatever you can to avoid those petty arguments. If you need help figuring out why you pick these fights, I suggest talking to a therapist, as there could be some deep-rooted issues going on that you're completely unaware of which are manifesting through these fights. Additionally, keep the lines of communication open with your boyfriend. The more you talk through any issues that come up, the less likely an argument will ensue. Breaking a pattern isn't easy, and it won't happen overnight, but hopefully he'll see that you're trying and in time, things will fall into place. Good luck.

France Weathering Credit Crisis Better: Pourquoi?

Thrifty household spending in France means the economy grows more slowly, but it also means that it slows down more moderately, too. In France, it's nearly impossible to spend money you don't have.

French credit cards are essentially debit cards, so there's no need to cut them up when you want that new Chanel bag, and banks aren't keen on providing a home loan unless you have 20 percent down, and the mortgage payments make up no more than 30 percent of your income. As a result many French homeowners buy their first property at a later age; and compared to the UK, where 70 percent own property, 57 percent of the French own a piece of earth. As you can imagine, this also means France has not seen a subprime housing meltdown.

While the French indulge in good wine, food, and sinful cigarettes, at least they don't treat themselves to hefty credit card debt and unrealistic mortgages. Do you think Americans and Brits should borrow some of the French economic je ne sais quoi, or is the extreme slowdown worth past and future growth?

You Asked: Can Our Relationship Work?

Dear Sugar,

I love beautiful things. Sometimes they are expensive (such as an Hermes Birkin) and other times they are cute outfits at H&M. I splurge and I save and then I splurge again. I'm never in credit card debt, and I spend my own money, making sure all the bills are paid, I've contributed to my retirement accounts, and I have put some money away for savings and emergency funds.

My boyfriend also has a well paid job; we live together and he saves most of his money. He doesn't have any habits that require money, we don't go out often to eat, but we have fun and we love each other deeply. However, he always argues with me and gets upset over my spending of my money. Whether it's a new pair of shoes or a new handbag, I sometimes want to just lie and not tell him I have something new or how much it cost. He says it's not the amount of money I spend, but the fact that I love to spend money on expensive things that are materialistic and excessive. I've tried budgeting and making changes so I don't end up spending an entire paycheck, but I can't give up my Louboutins and Chanels. They are who I am and I love fashion, beauty, style and glamour.

Can our relationship work? Are there solutions for both him and myself to make it work? We talk about it every few months when I purchase something, getting upset and then getting over it. I'm tired of the cycle, and I wish there was a way to change this! We come from different backgrounds and he is against materialism and strives for simplicity and happiness in the smallest things. Dear Shopaholic Sophie,

Clearly this cycle of arguing goes a lot deeper than your spending habits. Since he views material things differently than you do, you're going to have to make some choices if you want to save your relationship because it's pretty clear that it'll suffer if you continue to spend the way you have been.

Have you discussed the future of your relationship? Your boyfriend could be worried about being able to support you and your expensive taste if marriage and children is in your future. Since I don't know exactly what it is that upsets him, the best advice I can offer you is to talk about it. You don't want to get to the point where you have to lie to him to avoid an argument so I suggest you lay everything out on the table asap.

Compromise is key in every relationship, but I also feel it's very important to be the real you. Since you like the finer things in life and he enjoys a more simplistic lifestyle, you guys are going to have to figure out a way to accept each other for who you are. You don't necessarily have to see eye to eye in every aspect of the way you live you lives, but if your spending habits are putting a wrench in your otherwise seemingly good relationship, something gotta give. You can either limit your spending in order to salvage the relationship, or you can go your separate ways and hope to find a man you care equally for who will accept you for the person you are. I like the finer things in life too, but Sophie, make sure you aren't masking a deeper issue with your need to have new things because at the end of the day, you're boyfriend is right - material things really are just that. It doesn't hurt that girlfriend's a great beauty with a "colorful" past. But now she's all cleaned up, was chosen by Kaiser Lagerfeld himself to be the face of Chanel, and is performing at the top of her game. The Search for the Perfect Bag Continues

I am about to complete my masters' degree in May and I am trying to cultivate a more professional look. Clothing-wise I'm pretty much set, but there is one thing that I can't get right. The right bag for school/work! In high school, I sported a Herve Chapelier tote, or a Kate Spade messenger bag and lately I've been trying to use a Jack Gomme structured tote bag, but it's really not hip enough for me. Most of the "professional" looking bags I've seen are dowdy or too "mommy" like. My Fendi Spy bag is great, but doesn't work well at school or at my internship (too flashy and can't hold any paperwork or books). I've been seeing a lot of girls wearing large leather hobo bags and I am desperate for one! I'm thinking of getting one in dark brown, or maybe black (blah!), that would be roomy enough to hold some paperwork if necessary, and maybe a book or two, plus all the essentials (blackberry, makeup case, credit cards!). Can you recommend a bag? I saw one from Marc Jacobs last season but can't find it anywhere! I loved the big Gucci Hobo Jessica Simpson was sporting, but as with my Spy bag, I think it may be too flashy for the office. Dress me for the job I want. Thanks! Bag Lady

You have great taste! Ok, as I see it you have 2 options; You can go for a HUGE tote and carry everything all in one, or you can carry 2 bags - one for work and one for school. I love Chloe's large Paddington Tote. It's casual yet chic and the label doesn't come out and hit you over the head so it's ok for work. But it's leather which may get ruined if you are using it like a back pack for textbooks. Chanel has a new huge bag with its fabulous chain straps. It's called The Chanel Mademoiselle Tote Large. The leather happens to be extremely supple, which again could damage easily, but it's gorgeous and discreet to most (see photo below). Something else you may like is the new Marc Jacobs large Satchel bag. And - don't discount the fabulous and still very "it" Large Balenciaga Motorcycle bag that we see MK and Ashley using as school totes.
