It's like the week in flying cats! First there was the story of a New York City cat that survived a 26-story fall from a Manhattan highrise apartment. It landed on a neighbor's balcony with minor injuries, and yes, it's name is Lucky. And now I present you with the story of a cat who was stuck in a tree for a week and, just as he was about to be rescued by some good Samaritans, decided he'd had enough and just took a flying leap. Some of us Americans (myself included) are woefully unaware of who world leaders are. Like, do you know if Japan has a president or a prime minister? Do you know this person's name? (Taro Aso is the prime minister, and yes, I looked it up.) Well, I have another open secret for you. Somewhere in the back streets of Tokyo, there resides an aristo-cat who is really the Furry King of Japan. Here's some secret footage of him enjoying a repast of gyoza and beer! (As for the momentary stink eye - I think one of his subjects back-talked. He doesn't like that.)

Whether you prefer having a cat or a dog as a pet can say a lot about your personality. Here's a list of traits for each, and you can be the judge if there's any truth to it.

Cat owners tend to be...

Dog owners tend to be...

introverted, self-conscious, shy, secretive, sensitive
interested in quieter pursuits like reading, watching movies and videos, music, etc.
Are homebodies or prefer quiet places
Like their creature comforts and although they expect people to notice them, they tend not to boast, preferring to draw attention to themselves in less direct ways
Have a small circle of close friends rather than a larger group

extroverted, eager, unembarrassed, open
Interested in sports, adventuring, exploring, and outdoor pursuits
Like to be busy and go out a lot, like loud places like parties
They tease and pick on each other in a friendly way, and like talking and boasting about their accomplishments
Have a large circle of friends and acquaintances and they make friends easily

My partner just bought me one of these, and I have worn it once - it was fun, but more exciting for him than me. Today he bought me a collar and a little bell to go around my neck - I'm not sure if I should wear it. Is this going too far ? If I agree, then what will be next ?

Humor website Urlesque unilaterally declared today A Day Without Cats on the Internet. The “feline overlords,” as they described them, are kinda playing nice. They’ve agreed to lay low, courtesy of Stuff on My Cat. But they don’t like it one bit.

Friday Feel Good: Simon's Cat Continues to Be Needy

In advance of Happy Caturday, I thought I'd post this cute cartoon Fuzzles sent our way. The Simon's cat series depict essentially the same scenario: Simon's cat will not be ignored, and resorts to all manner of devious acts to get attention. Whether it's jumping all over Simon when he tries to sleep, or messing up his papers when he's trying to work, the cat is a punkass. But still adorable.

Très Bizarre: Prisoner Wants Visit From Mom - Who Is a Cat

Five years may be a short prison sentence, but that's 36 years in cat time. Way too long for Peter Koenig, a German inmate who wants to see his mother while serving a five-year sentence for armed robbery. One small, furry problem, though. His deceased mother is reincarnated as a cat, or so he believes.
The (formerly) heat-packing Buddhist took his fight to court, demanding cat-visiting rights, but was turned down for being unable to "furnish proof that his deceased mother had been reborn in the cat.” In a misguided gesture the court suggested a compromise: he could always write her.

Funny as this story sounds, it seems to me that if you can have human visitors in prison, why not have furry, four-legged ones?
