Obama Sings Happy Birthday to Ted Kennedy!

The who's who of DC gathered at the Kennedy Center tonight to wish Senator Ted Kennedy a happy 77th birthday. Bill Cosby hosted the event, and Lauren Bacall, Bernadette Peters, and James Taylor performed for the audience. Cosby wasn't the only person to make a joke. Teddy's niece Caroline, who saw her dreams of being a lawmaker fail this year, quipped: "I never thought I'd be in a room with so many senators."

One of those senators, Claire McCaskill, was in the audience, and shared the event with her followers on Twitter. She tweeted: "The Pres arrived at the end to lead us in singing Happy Birthday to Ted. Happy & sad."

Happy Birthday, Mr. Senator.

New York Voters Not Crazy About Caroline Kennedy

Most voters in New York don't want Caroline Kennedy to represent them in the US Senate. A new poll shows only 24 percent of voters back Caroline's bid, compared to 31 percent who want her rival, State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, to get Hillary's spot. Lucky for Caroline, unlike most wannabe senators, she doesn't have to court the voters. She only has one person to convince - Gov. Paterson.

Just in case you think the unpopularity of JFK's daughter is a backlash against legacies (can't get a more political name than Clinton or Kennedy), rival Cuomo has a political pedigree, too. His father Mario Cuomo served as NY governor from 1983 to 1994. And it gets better: his ex-wife, Kerry Kennedy, is the daughter of Bobby Kennedy. I think this race just got personal.

Sarah Palin Talks Media, Tina Fey, and Caroline Kennedy

Sarah sat down with conservative filmmaker John Ziegler this week and dished big time on the media, viewers, Tina Fey, and Caroline Kennedy. She said she thinks the media and women like Katie Couric and Tina Fey have been “capitalizing on” and “exploiting” her.

I did see that Tina Fey was named entertainer of the year and Katie Couric’s ratings have risen. And I know that a lot of people are capitalizing on, oh I don’t know, perhaps some exploiting that was done via me, my family, my administration. That’s a little bit perplexing, but it also says a great deal about our society.

Palin also said she believes Caroline Kennedy, who is pursuing a New York Senate seat, is getting lighter press treatment than Palin did as the vice-presidential nominee because of Kennedy’s social class. She doesn't hold back - you can watch the video for yourself when you, read more.

Should Caroline Kennedy Disclose Financial Records?

If NY Gov. Paterson appoints Caroline Kennedy to the US Senate, not only will she avoid an election (for now), but she will also dodge a requirement to file a 10-part, public report filled with details about her financial assets, credit card debt, mortgages, book deals, and any source of payments over $5,000 in the last three years. Theoretically, Caroline could disclose the usual information in a gesture of transparency; instead, she says she will wait to comply with disclosure requirements until after she is chosen as senator, if she is chosen at all.

Little is known about Kennedy's personal finances, except for the assumption that she is wealthy. According to the New York Times, while working for the New York City Department of Education, she declined a salary, which exempted her from disclosure rules. While I can't blame anyone for wanting some privacy, I'm not sure she'll find much working as a US senator.

Since she's going to release them at some point if she gets the job, do you think Caroline should disclose her financial records now for appearance's sake?

Senate Seats: Caroline Wants NY's, IL Too Poor For Vote

When word broke that Joe Biden's chief of staff would replace the senator from Delaware when he becomes VP, nobody paid much attention, but that's not the case when it comes to seats recently warmed by Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

Today, news broke that Caroline Kennedy indeed wants the soon-to-be-free seat once filled by her uncle Bobby, and now occupied by Hillary. After wrestling with a decision to enter the public spotlight, Caroline appears ready to carry on the Kennedy dynasty.

Meanwhile, embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich still has the sole authority to appoint Barack Obama's replacement. While state legislators try to impeach the governor, another option gaining momentum includes holding a special election to let voters determine who should represent them. Another Senator Kennedy? Caroline Could Get Hillary's Seat

While I'm dying to know who's your favorite woman in power of 2008, a well-known female might soon jump from prominent to powerful. Rumor has it that New York Governor David Paterson has talked to Caroline Kennedy about filling Hillary Clinton's Senate seat.

Caroline wouldn't be the first Kennedy to fill that seat - her uncle Robert F. Kennedy served as the senator from New York.

Until recently, Caroline typically shunned public attention. But this year we saw her run Barack Obama's VP selection team, and she appeared with her uncle Teddy at an Obama rally while the candidate was still fighting a bitter primary battle with Hillary Clinton. Barack Obama has selected Caroline Kennedy to help him choose a running mate. Perhaps to aid the daughter of JFK, the Boston Globe put together a very handy slideshow of potential VP choices for Barack Obama.

The interactive list, which includes Hillary Clinton as the only woman, outlines the pros and cons of each potential veep.

For example: Retired General Wesley Clark would bring impressive military and foreign policy skills, as he helped negotiate the end of the war in Bosnia. But, his poor campaign skills, demonstrated by his poor run in 2004, could bring down the ticket.

Senator Barack Obama secured a huge endorsement from Democratic icon Senator Ted Kennedy. Teddy just delivered a stirring speech, hitting Hillary Clinton on all of her talking points regarding experience. The electricity in the room was palpable even for those watching from the other side of the television camera.

Senator Kennedy, often alluding to his brother President John F. Kennedy, said he has always planned to

"Support the candidate who inspires me, who inspires all of us, who can lift our vision and summon our hopes and renew our belief that our country's best days are still to come."

Caroline Kennedy, the sole survivor of President Kennedy, and Representative Patrick Kennedy joined in the Obama lovefest. The Kennedy endorsements will aid Obama on a national and local level. As the battle for delegates moves to congressional districts, the Kennedy stamp of approval may help local leaders feel confident endorsing Obama.

A word to the wise: naked photos can always resurface - even decades later. As archivists sort through 610 boxes full of memorabilia and junk collected by the late Andy Warhol, they recently stumbled upon an autographed nude photo of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

Jackie O was a frequent muse to the packrat artist and apparently gifted him a naked poster signed, "For Andy, with enduring affection, Jackie Montauk." Matt Wrbican, who is overseeing the project of the Andy Warhol Foundation, says the handwriting matches that of Onassis, who often visited Warhol's Montauk, NY, beachhouse. Here's more:

So, after her second husband, Aristotle Socrates Onassis, got a paparazzi to take pictures of her skinny-dipping and it landed in the hands of Larry Flynt, who turned it into a poster for his porn magazine, Hustler, Jackie O sent a copy – likely as a joke – to Warhol, Wrbican said.

Wow, those guys are lucky that Jackie had a good sense of humor about the whole thing. In another funny twist, the relic was found amid junk ranging from receipts to fan mail and even Caroline Kennedy's wedding cake. Just goes to show you never know where things will turn up.
