"I was born Catholic, I was baptised, but in my life I feel profoundly secular. I find that the controversy coming from the pope's (anti-condom) message — albeit distorted by the media — is very damaging. In Africa it's often church people who look after sick people.

While Carla's away, French thieves are at play.
Hundreds of intimate photos and some videos of the French first lady were stolen from the apartment of her ex-lover's brother this week. The racy images were recorded during her relationship with philosopher Raphael Enthoven, who is also the father of her son.

It's no secret we're obsessed with all things French at TrèsSugar, and France's first lady, Carla Bruni, is no exception. But while she may be our favorite, the Daily Mail claims she was bested yesterday by Princess Letizia of Spain in style and beauty.
Carla accompanied President Nicolas Sarkozy to Spain to placate rumors that Spanish tempers ran high after a gaffe-y Sarkozy said Spanish Premier Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero was "not very smart."

Outrage over bailed out executives taking home large bonuses and financing expensive trips all on the taxpayer's dime seems more than reasonable. And I can only imagine how angry those who lost their life savings to Bernard Madoff must be at the fact that the alleged swindler is still living in luxury on Park Avenue. But another set of rich people, who have arguably done nothing wrong, are gaining the public's wrath.

Though his visit ended amid panic, France's Nicolas Sarkozy's first presidential visit to Israel this week made quite an impression. Sarkozy called on the country to stop settlement in the occupied West Bank, saying Mideast peace depends on Israel dropping its refusal to surrender sovereignty over parts of Jerusalem claimed by the Palestinians. As compensation, he assured Israel that it could count on France's support in halting Iran's nuclear program.

First ladies are everywhere! France's first lady, Carla Bruni, channeled a certain American first lady yesterday when she arrived in Great Britain. Hillary Clinton's travels with Sinbad as first lady (especially her recollection of them) are all over the news.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy is quite the ladies' man. He's been married to two different women since becoming president in 2007 and got caught checking out a young woman at the last G8 conference in Italy. (Was he or wasn't he?!).
