APA: You Can't Pray the Gay Away

One of the funniest parts of Bruno is when Sacha Baron Cohen's flamboyant character tries to undergo gay-therapy, a stunt also attempted in this clip from the original Ali G Show. Well today the American Psychological Association announced that such therapy, typically administered by therapists with a tie to religious groups, does not succeed in making a patient straight. Surprise!

The APA says that instead of trying to change a patient's sexuality, therapists should encourage those who are troubled with their homosexuality for religious reasons to pursue celibacy or change churches. The conclusion that "reparative therapy" is unsuccessful and potentially harmful is no big surprise, but the panel did have some unexpected words for the mental health community. The leader of the panel that conducted the report, Judith Glassgold, said that while religious therapists must understand that therapy cannot change someone's sexuality, secular therapists must be understanding, too. Glassgold explained:

"Both sides have to educate themselves better. The religious psychotherapists have to open up their eyes to the potential positive aspects of being gay or lesbian. Secular therapists have to recognize that some people will choose their faith over their sexuality."

Brüno: Exposing or Encouraging Homophobia?

If you haven't noticed, a lot of people don't know what to make of Sacha Baron Cohen's upcoming film Brüno. A spokesperson for GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) is the latest person to express mixed feelings about the Delicious Journeys Through America for the Purpose of Making Heterosexual Males Visibly Uncomfortable in the Presence of a Gay Foreigner in a Mesh T-Shirt:

"We have very mixed emotions about the movie. Those of us who saw the film agreed that you can't critique it as a single film because it's more like 90 minutes of individual sketches. Some are funny and hit their mark but others hit the [gay] community instead. As someone who sat at the back of a focus group audience outside of Los Angeles, I felt they were laughing at us at times."

Yet one critic thinks everyone needs to grow up and realize Brüno does not represent the entire gay community, but a set of people who "blanket themselves in one aspect of their personality" (their sexuality) just to force a reaction out of people. Another writer sees Cohen's performance of stereotypically outrè gayness this way: "It's not irony, you're just an asshole."

Well, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada. Sacha Baron Cohen is up to some new tricks. Instead of just punking Spring Break yahoos in Miami, he's going after Milan Fashion Week designers! Somehow, he got backstage access to the other Prada show in Milan and walked the runway until startled (and I imagine, pissed off) fashionistas gave him a well-heeled boot. All this for his upcoming movie Bruno: Delicious Journeys Through America For the Purpose of Making Heterosexual Male. And honestly - I can't wait! Go Bruno! I cannot wait for this movie. Bruno (aka Sacha Baron Cohen) goes to GAYtona Beach, FL, for spring break and gets a bunch of yahoo frat boys to spell out the word party and say "Whoo!" in endless variations. What they don't anticipate is what he asks them to say into the camera towards the end. Whoopsies! It's worth the wait, my friends.

Most people know Ali G and Borat, but not everyone knows SBC's character Bruno, the gay Austrian news anchor who loves to surprise the douches he interviews by signing off for Austrian Gay TV. Here he is at a lame neo-Nazi music festival in England called "Evil Fest." (Oooooh, scary!) Full of dum-dums who randomly shout at the top of their lungs, Bruno has a grand ol' time making them look doofy. (Trust - they don't need a lot of help.) Definitely watch until the end, when Bruno asks a sad little shirtless man hanging out trying not to pass out why he's evil. Priceless.

Très Bizarre: Famillies Dressed in Naked Suits

Thanks to the website Awkward Family Photos, we all know how uncomfortable family portraits can be. But some families are willing to really embrace the awkward nature of a family photo by dressing up in hand-knit naked suits for the occasion.

San Francisco's public television channel recently caught up with artist Anna Maltz, the woman who makes the head-to-toe suits and then takes photos of people wearing them. (I wonder if she also made the suit Sacha Baron Cohen wore at the Berlin premiere of Bruno?)

Anna explains that she got her inspiration from original naked people Adam and Eve. The only downside to wearing the suit? Curious people often feel free to squeeze what they believe to be fake breasts, when they're actually squeezing the real breasts that lie beneath the suits! Would ever try one on for size?

After seeing Sacha Baron Cohen dressed up as Ali G, Borat, and Bruno, it's hard to remember that underneath the believable disguise is this curly haired cutie! If I were his woman, I might be afraid of getting pranked all the time, but he's obviously doing something right since he has actress Isla Fisher by his side.

I already found out what BuzzSugar thought about the movie Bruno, but I'm dying to know what you all think about the man behind the flamboyant character.
