Bro vs. Douchebag: Is There a Difference?

Listening to Phish. Wearing popped collars. Playing ultimate Frisbee. Flaunting the number of chicks bagged.

Are these the traits of a bro or a douche? Is there a difference? While pondering this question, you might want to pop over to BroBible.com, a "brocial" networking site created by 24-year-old Doug Banker, a hesitantly self-identified "bro" who wants to redeem bro culture from being demonized as douche culture. (Sample post: "What's More Bro: Oral or Anal Sex?")

Last year when the site was still under construction, he had this to say about the distinction: "[A] bro is just someone who likes to go out and have a good time, who likes to stay connected to their group of friends while expanding their horizons. It’s not one of our goals to make the word ‘bro’ more positive. But yes, hopefully, that will happen."

So is there a difference between a bro and a douchebag? Does it matter? Do you wish those words would go away? Inquiring minds want to know!

According to a BBC article, more and more men are seeking breast-reduction surgery. Whether you call them man boobs ("moobs") or man cans, they've become enough of a problem that one London hospital has cited a 50% increase in patients seeking to remove their obstreperous man breasts. Apparently, Seinfeldian "bros" or "manziers" are not the solution. So we at GiggleSugar, seeking to balance the obsessive attention paid to women's bodies, have decided to ask you, who has the worst "moobs"?

We know the rallying cry of douchebags and knuckleheads everywhere: "Bros before hos!" This means that even though these guys will spend every waking moment trying to bag a "ho," ultimately, their bros are more important. I've heard the female rejoinder - "Chicks before dicks" - but I wonder if we could come up with a better one. Not a lot rhymes with "douches," "chodes," "nimrods" or "tools." Or maybe I'm just not good at rhyming. What's the woman's version of "bros before hos"?

Hotel Offers a Hangover-Themed Bachelor Party Package

I don't know if you've seen The Hangover, but I can't imagine aspiring to replicate the weekend those guys have, what with a live tiger in the bathroom, a live baby of mysterious origin, and a missing groom. But apparently, Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas thinks this pop culture reference will resonate with bachelors.

It's offering a Hangover-themed hotel package called Ultimate Hangover. Here's the sales pitch:

Some guys just can't handle Vegas, as demonstrated in the new motion picture The Hangover. But this town's easier to handle if you've got the tools to recover from a hangover of your own.

Forum Tower Royal suite? Check. (Also, checked for tigers.) Food to take the edge off? Check. Use your $50 Serendipity 3 food credit for the Hangover Omelet, loaded with bacon, French fries, mushrooms and cheddar. Hair of the dog? Check – use your $50 pool credit for a round of bloody Marys at the Garden of the Gods pool complex.

I'm not gonna argue with the power of a hangover omelet, but if that uses up the entire $50 food credit, those mushrooms had better be truffles. Still, I have to give them points for creativity. What amenities would you want after a wild weekend in Vegas?

Opening the Ex Files: Good or Bad Idea?

A reader recently asked a gay man if it was a good idea to go back to an ex for comfort because dating sucked. His advice, naturally, was to remember that she left him for a reason, not to go back, and perhaps hold off on dating altogether until she was happy again alone. But I wonder - whether for the sex or for companionship - is it ever a good idea to open the ex files?

Dish! What Do You Make of the New Bromance Culture?

Something's a-brewin' in the world of masculinity. It's called the "bromance," and it's an attempt by straight men to be friends without being all gay about it. Unfortunately, it's kind of homophobic, and it's spawned an insulting credo, "Bros before hos," which pits girlfriends as the bromance's public enemy number one. Clearly, men have a yearning to be close, outside of a football field or war zone, so the idea of bromances is a step in the right direction. But do men have to be jerks and diss women and gay dudes in the process? (Incidentally, bromance culture has blown up in large part because of Judd Apatow, whose films, including Knocked Up, 40 Year Old Virgin, Superbad, and Pineapple Express, should have their own genre - the Brom-Com, or Bromantic Comedy.) So tell me, what do you make of the new bromance culture?

He's Just Not That Into You has been out for a week now, but I can't seem to get it out of my head! The clips in the beginning of the movie, where the women make excuses as to why the guy didn't call, were actually my favorite part. They come up with every reason in the book, ranging from "you're too pretty for him" to "he's waiting for you to call him"!

Though I happen to feel that honesty is the best policy, I'll admit that I've fibbed to my friends before to lessen the blow of the inevitable. What about you? Have you ever told a friend what she wanted to hear even though you knew the real answer was that he was just not that into her?

Save the Princess! Almost Every Kid in the US Is a Gamer

And yes, that title would be a Mario Bros. reference, the last time I played video games with any seriousness. Well, now the Wiis have it: a surprising 97 percent of all kids under 17 play video games. According to the new study out today, 99 percent of boys and 94 percent of girls of all ethnicities and incomes report playing some form of game. Seven percent even said that while they didn't have a computer at home, they have a video game system. And it's not just once in a while: more than half of the respondents said they had played a game the previous day.

Though visions of silent, glued-to-the-tube teens dance in my head, the act of gaming is more social than one might think. Two-thirds say they game to socialize with friends and family, as well as still texting and emailing friends. One of the researchers says, "Gaming is the reason to get together - but they're probably talking about other things."

And the type of video game played varies wildly, from Dance, Dance Revolution and Wii Fit to HALO and Madden NFL, researchers were careful to say no video game is "good" or "bad," parents could do a better job of knowing what's in the video games their kids play. "If more parents would take the time to play the same things their children are playing - or even better, play with them - it would benefit both parents and children." Of course as with most things, moderation with the sweet, sweet licks of Guitar Hero is strongly advised.

And, no. I never saved that princess.
