I have not, but to the extent that friends have, I would say that the experiences vary widely, and yeah, it's not all that it's cracked up to be. Esp. if you're in a relationship (or quasi-relationship) and invite a friend. One friend in particular initiated that very scenario (as a surprise for her bf) and not only did it ruin her friendship with the other girl, but it made her insanely jealous/insecure when she sort of became the "third wheel" in the activities.
