Would You Line Up For a Bridal Gown Sweep?

If you caught the Today show this morning, you probably saw every soon-to-be bride on a budget in New York City bombard Filene's Basement. Women were lined up since the early morning hours to get their hands on discounted, nonrefundable bridal gowns. And the women came prepared - they brought team members, walkie-talkies and whistles, and plans to divide and conquer the room of brand new gowns to get the right dress in the right size.

In this economy, bargain shopping is a must, but racing to snatch the gown of your dreams almost takes the excitement out of it. Since I'm not in the market for a wedding dress, I don't know how to answer this one. So tell me ladies, would you go through the trouble to get your dress on sale? Or would you rather pay a little more to have a relaxing, memorable experience?

Toilet Paper Wedding Dresses

Most brides-to-be would include Vera Wang, InStyle magazine, and the Fashion Institute of Technology as their wedding-prep dream team. Others, like the following women, will settle for Charmin, Cheap Chic Weddings, and Ripley's Believe It or Not! They're winners in the fourth annual design-a-wedding-dress-with-toilet-paper contest. They could only use TP, tape, paper, and glue. Dang - these dresses are awesome! I just hope they were allowed to use 3-ply. They look pretty delicate.

Filene's Running of the Brides!

If you thought a sale at H&M could provoke a near riot, imagine that times 100, and you'll get Filene's biannual "running of the brides" bridal gown sale in Boston. The strategy appears to be the same, though. When the doors open, knock people out of the way. Then proceed to put as many items (in this case, heavy-ass bridal dresses) in your arms and/or cart, no matter what the size or style. Have some dude who wished he had a prior commitment guard the items - like hippie boy you see in this vid - and then make deals with other brides as if you had a completely separate economy going on down in that basement. (OK, that last strategy, I admit, I've never heard of before.)

Dress Code Etiquette For Weddings

Dear Sugar
I have a really cute cream colored cocktail dress that I'd like to wear to a wedding. I've read somewhere that guests should not wear white out of respect for the bride. But is cream/yellowish white too close to white for

If you are really concerned about it and you are afraid that you are going to feel uncomfortable - don't wear the dress. But since it's a creamy/yellowy color, and it's not long, makes it OK. It would be different if it were very formal. Then it may resemble a bridal gown - and that's not OK.

In the past, I've gotten the bride's approval if I was unsure about a light colored dress. Are you close enough to her to send her a picture or to stop by?

You just have to remember that this is her 15 minutes of fame and you don't want to do anything to detract from it.
