Breastfeeding moms looking to avoid jail time might want to switch their kids to bottles if they're hitting the bottle themselves. A mother in North Dakota was arrested recently for breastfeeding while intoxicated. Police said that they could have arrested the drunk mother for endangering her child even if she wasn't breastfeeding, but is it really fair to arrest a mom for being drunk? Perhaps there's something more going on here.

A visibly drunk woman seems to violate deep-seated expectations of how a "lady" should be well-behaved, fragile, or conventionally maternal. For example, the insatiable fascination with misbehaving starlets and their clubbing antics isn't extended to their male counterparts.

Sex Myth: You Can't Get Pregnant If You're Nursing

I really get a kick out of the pregnancy myths floating around, like you can't get pregnant if you pee after sex, two condoms are better than one, and, of course, that you can't get pregnant while breastfeeding. A good friend of mine actually had to learn this one the hard way - she got pregnant while nursing her 10-month old son!

Using breastfeeding as contraception is known as lactational amenorrhea method (LAM), but since it's not 100 percent effective, you shouldn't rely on it unless you don't mind getting pregnant soon after giving birth. According to the World Health Organization, LAM is 98.8 to 99.1 percent effective while breastfeeding for the first six months, but you can conceive without knowing that you're menstrual cycle has returned to normal since you ovulate about two weeks before your period.

If you're not interested in becoming a mother again so soon, your best bet is to talk to your ob/gyn about an effective and safe form of birth control that you can use while breastfeeding.

Where Do You Stand? Public Photos of Breastfeeding

Whether you're for or against breastfeeding, moms all over the world are nursing their babies, many are doing it in public, and some have even posted pictures of themselves breastfeeding on Facebook. It turns out that Facebook isn't OK with that and has placed a ban on posting such photos on its site. If women ignore the rule, Facebook will take the pictures down. The social networking site claims to have no problem with photos of women nursing but simply won't allow photos "containing a fully exposed breast." A group called the Mothers International Lactation Campaign (MILC) is so outraged by the ban that they're planning a demonstration on Dec. 27 right outside Facebook's Palo Alto offices. They're also asking Facebook users to join the "virtual nurse-in" by making their profile photo a picture of a woman breastfeeding.

The "East Coast Spokesman" for Citizens Against Breast-feeding is a hoot. He appeared on several news segments about public breastfeeding a few years back to vocalize his reasons for being anti. Watch the segment below and try not to laugh. According to Jim, breastfeeding can cause a child to become antisocial or even an alcoholic. Oh jeez. It took the media four years to figure out that this dude was really named Alan Abel, a professional hoaxer. Good one, Jim.

Breastfeeding is a personal decision. Some women swear by it, while other mothers prefer to bottle feed their babies. While there are many health benefits to breastfeeding, it's not right for everyone.

With that said, have you ever witnessed a mother breastfeeding a child who seemed a little too old to still be on the boob? I have, and I have to admit it was pretty uncomfortable. It's recommended that babies be breastfed for up to a year, though some mothers breastfeed for longer. But ladies, what I want to know is: How old is too old to breastfeed?

A Do or a Don't: Breastfeeding in Public

It's recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics that babies should be breastfed for the first year of their life. While most women don't end up completing the entire year, a lot of them at least give it the old college try.

Some new moms say breastfeeding is more painful and tedious than giving birth while others feel it gives them the best opportunity to bond with their baby. Since not all public places, restaurants, stores, planes, etc. have private lactation rooms, women who are breastfeeding are stuck with no choice but to feed their hungry baby whatever and whenever is convenient. While some people don't mind seeing a woman breastfeed, others have a strong negative reaction to it, so what I want to know is, do you think it's a do or a don't to breastfeed in public?

It seems to be "breasts" day at GiggleSugar. (Pure coincidence.) A woman who calls herself The Lactivist sells these great t-shirts to raise awareness about public breastfeeding. Women's breasts seem to fascinate people until they're used as nature intended--to feed a kid. Then folks get all weird and squirrelly and want the new mom to race to the bathroom or hide in shame. The Lactivist thinks women should just take those babies out and feed their babies in public. And why not?
