I have a friend who recently went from naturally brunette to shockingly blond, all because she was having a tough time in the dating department. She heard guys prefer blondes and thought changing her hair color may help change her luck. Have you heard that too? I definitely have, and although I don't necessarily agree with my friend's impulsive approach to finding a boyfriend, the idea does intrigue me, as it did author Jena Pincott. She set out to answer this, and other juicy questions regarding men in her book entitled, Do Gentlemen Really Prefer Blondes? She began doing research to help answer questions in her own love life and compiled all her scientific research about sex, men, and love in this book to share with other puzzled women.

Just Do It?

While perusing the local book store, I came upon this book called Just Do It. The subtitle says "How One Couple Turned Off the TV and Turned On Their Sex Lives For 101 Days (No Excuses!)." Wow is all I could think. Sure, most couples have sex every day in the first month or so, but after that, it happens more like a couple times a week! It's a known fact that life gets in the way of sex but it seems like the middle-aged couple in this book weren't willing to stand for it anymore. They made a pact to have sex every day for 101 days straight, no matter what.

I'm in awe that any couple would try this sort of experiment as a way to rekindle their love. Do you think you and your partner could ever commit to this type of sexathon? Would agreeing to get it on every single day for over three months prove to be beneficial to your relationship, or do you think it would turn sex and intimacy into a chore?

Dear Read: Blackout Girl

I just finished reading a great book! Blackout Girl: Growing Up and Drying Out in America , written by Jennifer Storm, a former teenage addict, is a page turner to say the least. This autobiography tells the story of her tumultuous childhood and her fast descend into alcoholism and drug addiction. For some reason, I've always been fascinated by these types of memoirs and this one didn't let me down. She never went over the top in her detail of her past, nor did she make any excuses for the numerous mistakes she made.

This book touches on some pretty heavy subjects - rape at a very young age, her troubled and abusive relationship with her mother, death, divorce, her questioned sexual orientation, and recovery. Every time I thought she'd hit her bottom, I was sadly mistaken. Her honesty made me turn each and every page and I found myself becoming her cheerleader. Her story of survival is a great example of how someone can turn life around, no matter how bad it gets, with a lot of hard work and determination. If you're up for a straightforward, raw, and emotional read, Blackout Girl is the book for you.

What Book Has Inspired You?

I'm currently rereading Eat, Pray, Love because I loved the message so much. It reminded me how important it is to nurture yourself and to never let anything stop you from doing what you want. It inspired me to take more time for myself and to not feel bad about putting my needs first. It also motivated me to write in my journal more, learn how to play guitar (a long-time goal), and spend more time with my friends and family.

What Sins Have you Committed?

Yvonne K. Fulbright recently wrote a book entitled Sex With Your Ex. And 69 Other Tempting Things You Should Never Do Again (Plus a Few That You Should) which is chalk full of dating no no's -- no no's that everyone has committed at least once in their single/dating lifetime!

According to this sexologist, author, relationship expert, and columnist, some prime examples of what not to do are:

Never have sex with your ex
Never have sex with your best friend's ex (or your ex's best friend)
Never use the toilet in front of your partner
Never drop your girlfriends for your guy
Never let him keep photos of you in your birthday suit

If you're one of the many women that have committed one or more of these sins, don't be too hard on yourself, you're not alone, but what I want to know is, what is the worst dating sin you have ever committed?

De-Stress With a Good Book

Summer to me is all about relaxing and taking it easy. It's a time to slow down and soak up the sun.

Even though most of us work in the summer, you've got to make some time to sit on the beach, outside on the lawn, on a park bench, or out on a boat. Not having any deadlines to worry about for even 20 minutes is a great way to calm your mind and re-charge your battery.

If you have a good book to read, it'll help you relax even more because you can lose yourself in the story. I always pack a good book in my purse or bag just in case I have a few moments to spare.

Oprah, Ellen and The Secret

Talk show hosts, the book business, and the media are scrambling to keep up with the buzz around a controversial, new self-help book, The Secret, which is currently the best-selling title at Amazon.com. I'm including links here and here to articles discussing the value and legitimacy of the book's promises, so you can do a little research before spending your cash. I took away one useful thing -- a reminder, really -- from the interview I watched with Ellen. We're advised to change our thoughts and the language of our thoughts, but in order to do that, of course, one must become more aware of them.

Now there are multiple studies that confirm the ways in which our thinking impacts our physical bodies, and thus our moods, through neural and chemical processes, so I can get on board with that challenge. I felt resolved -- after considering the interview and other things I know but haven't implemented, ahem -- to stop every day at 2pm and write down as many of my thoughts as I can remember from the day, in exactly the words I was thinking them. In this way, I hope to become more aware of my patterns, of what I choose to focus on and how I describe things to myself. I'm going to do this for 2 weeks, see what I can learn about myself, and make a plan for recasting the thoughts I believe are limiting my life. I don't want to attract anything, per se, just hope to get clearer and cleaner about myself. Anyone care to join me in the exercise?

Legendary Comic Book Artist Takes On the Book of Genesis

Widely regarded as the father of underground comics, the famously T & A-obsessed R. Crumb surprised many by deciding to take on the first book of the Bible, the Book of Genesis.

How to reconcile the sacred with the profane? The Book of Genesis Illustrated, which contains all 50 chapters, comes with a warning: "Adult Supervision Recommended For Minors." And it's not because R. Crumb changes or adds words to the original, but rather because his art graphically depicts what he calls the the Book of Genesis's inherent violence:

"[It's about] ruling elites, victimizing people in sadistic ways, which is human beings at their nastiest. They have power over others, and they derive pleasure from inflecting pain on other humans. That's about as nasty as people get."

Crumb's French publisher, Jean-Luc Fromental, thought Crumb might be able to achieve an interpretation of Genesis only through "blasphemy." Now? He thinks that he was trying to "[r]eread the whole text from a humanistic point of view . . ."

In a press conference for The Book of Genesis Illustrated, Crumb said that although he "seeks knowledge" of God and believes that there is a force ruling us, we can't ever truly understand it. As for regarding the Bible as a sacred truth? He thinks it's crazy, adding, "But the human race is crazy if nothing else." (If you're interested in R.
