Take a Break With My Three Favorite Viral Videos Right Now

As everyone who's even somewhat familiar with the Internet knows, there's a new viral-video-of-the-hour well, pretty much every hour. Some are hilarious, some just so-so, but I've come across three lately that have made me laugh out loud. They're not new, exactly, but they're still so funny, no matter how many times I watch each of them. It's helping along this sluggish Monday afternoon.

First, there's a Toy Story 2 trailer set to the Dark Knight trailer. Hard to explain further than that, so just take a look. Then, a video with a similar idea: Bert and Ernie trying out gangsta rap (there's a metal version of this, but I prefer the rap one). And finally, the most recent of the three (and I think the most hilarious): the literal interpretation of the music video for A-Ha's "Take On Me" (hat tip to Giggle for that one). "If You Were Gay" with Burt and Ernie

You know you've thought about it before. What's up, you wondered, with those permanent bachelors Bert and Ernie? The Broadway musical Avenue Q, inspired by Sesame Street characters all grown up with adult troubles, has an awesome song Nicky (the Ernie-ish character) sings to Rod (the Burt character). And someone added it to original Sesame Street clips. I'll have this song in my head all day!

Bert and Ernie Tell You How to Get to Sesame Street and Everywhere Else

Guess who knows how to get to Sesame Street? Given Bert and Ernie's new job, it's a safe bet that they know their way around town. The Sesame Street duo are the latest to lend their voices to TomTom navigation system, making a traffic jam a lot more fun for everyone in the car.

For $13, parents can download the popular characters' voices to help them navigate their way anywhere from grandma's house to the local gymnastics class, adding a lil humor to the ride, such as, "U-turn ahead, Bert. Just me turn? All of us Bert." Take a look at a clip of the characters trying to record for the system and tell us, are they a fun distraction for antsy passengers or a headache waiting to happen for mom?

Petition Asks Sesame Street: Let Bert and Ernie Get Married!

An online petition sponsored by Change.org asks Sesame Street to take Bert and Ernie's roommate relationship to the next level by outing the puppets with a gay wedding. The petition says letting Bert and Ernie out of the closet would show kids that it's OK to be gay. There are currently more than 1,500 signatures. The letter reads:

In this horrific age of LGBT kids taking their own lives, they need to know that they ARE BEAUTIFUL and their lives are worth living. Aside from those that are committing suicide, the bullies that facilitate these tragedies need to learn that homophobia is NOT okay. They need to know that acceptance of their fellow human beings would indeed plant a seed of peace that will reverberate throughout the world. We are not asking that Sesame Street do anything crude or disrespectful. Only that they allow Bert & Ernie to marry or even add a transgender character to the show. It can be done in a tasteful way. Let us teach tolerance of those that are different. Let Sesame Street and PBS Kids be a big part in saving many worthy lives.

California recently passed a bill requiring lessons on gay historical figures in social studies classrooms, but a gay couple on Sesame Street could likely do more to increase children's awareness across the country. The change wouldn't have to be drastic - Bert and Ernie could simply act like other muppet couples. And it wouldn't be the first tough subject the show has taken on. Sesame Street has tackled divorce and race, among other topics.

For over 40 years, the Muppets have been loved as international pop culture legends. And if you grew up with Kermit and the rest of the gang, you're sure to have a favorite Muppet that holds a special place in your heart. Not only do these crazy puppets touch both children and adults, the Muppets have managed to stay relevant and in the know even as the times continue to change.
