Beijing will be dressed to impress this August when the world turns its attention east for the Summer Olympics. Radar lists eight changes in its July/August issue that China is making to ensure the city is picture perfect when the cameras go on.

To avoid unsightly traffic, the Chinese government will only let half of Beijing's drivers on its streets.

Considering the intimate economic ties many countries have with China, boycotting the Beijing Olympics to protest human rights violations seems like an incomplete and insincere gesture. Yet, some individuals are attempting to resist China on their own by boycotting products made in China. These conscious consumers are finding it nearly impossible to not buy China.

The Olympic torch is coming to North America this week, but not before making a hectic stop in London. Yesterday, 80 English athletes, celebrities, and other respected citizens relayed the torch — and the scene was chaotic. 2,000 police officers lined the snowy route populated with pro-Tibet protesters as well as flag waving China supporters.

China put on a spectacular goodbye to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. David Beckham and a red double-decker bus made appearances, helping China pass the torch to London, which will hold the games in 2012. David wasn't the only star shining among the many fireworks; Leona Lewis and Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page also entertained the athletes and spectators.

Over 10,000 athletes, hundreds of thousands of fans, and 30,000 journalists have traveled to Beijing for the Olympics.
To welcome these visitors, everyday life in the Chinese capital received an Olympic makeover. The Chinese government removed the homeless from the streets, urged smokers to quit, advised bus commuters to wait in line instead of push, installed 40 million plants, cut traffic in half, and even gave residents wardrobe advice.

Chinese authorities know that looking fierce is key to making a good impression on the world. That's why they're handing out etiquette books to 4 million households. In the books, the Chinese fashion police have put white socks with black shoes, outfits with more than three colors, and pajamas in public on the Olympic "don't" list.

While the Olympics with the convention chaser gobbled up the news cycle, the Paralympic Games is running now in Beijing through Sept. 17 and is well worth a slice of the cycle. The stories and pictures out of the games rival a Phelps headline any day.
