Drop the Ball? Not This Dog

This pup's owner claims that he never asked the dog to pick up a ball and perform a balancing act. It's been the dog's thang from the start; he practices on a daily basis. Consequently, our pooch can now balance, bounce, and even spin a ball on the tippy tip of his nose. In the canine world, it's kind of a big deal. The ladies love it, I hear.

This babe's still in diapers and he's got enough balance to hold his own on a skateboard? I'm impressed. This 16-month-old has mastered the skills of balancing, squatting and jumping. He's probably only been walking for four months and the kid's already found himself an alternate mode of transportation! He pretty much entered this world and hit the ground skating...

Can Women Have It All?

A successful career. A loving marriage. Well-loved and well-behaved children. The promise of women's liberation holds that women can have all of this if that's what they want. But one teacher wrote in the Daily Mail yesterday that telling a young girl that she can reach the top of the career ladder and raise a family is passing on nothing more than a fairy tale. This not-so-modern woman thinks:

"The young women we are sending out into the world believe they can have it all - and, if they don't, they will have failed. And what a tragedy that is, because the truth is that modern women can't have it all. They may succeed in their careers and they may succeed as mothers, but to do both at the same time? No, that is not possible without making huge sacrifices which many will find simply too much."

Obviously life is full of compromises and trade-offs, but I don't think that means women have to choose between success outside the home and success inside the home. With a little balance, I think women, just like men, can manage both. What do you think?

Bill Clinton Has Problematic Views on Mad Men

It appears Bill Clinton has come out of retirement to put his foot in his mouth. When discussing his appreciation for Mad Men, Clinton attempted to present a balanced view about how the show depicts women. Unfortunately, it came out sounding quite embarrassing considering his reputation for putting the moves on his staff, something we see a lot on the show. Clinton said:

"The way women were treated is appalling, and only occasionally funny to me."

I think someone should tell Mr. Clinton that the "appalling" treatment of women is not supposed to be funny . . . ever. Let's just hope this was an unfortunate choice of words.

The Real Housewives of NYC: Dating Douchebags in Disguise

I run hot and cold on Bethenny Frankel, The Real Housewives of New York City's resident single gal. Often her one-liners are brilliant and her bits of wisdom spot-on. Like last night's observation about "trick guys" - the smart, nerdy guys who are still bitter about their lack of popularity in high school and are often douches in disguise. Here, Bethenny weighs whether to go on a date with a model.

I definitely think there's some truth to the "trick-guy" thing. But Bethenny lost me when she said that balancing a career and a serious relationship might be impossible (what!?) while having a career and a kid is totally doable. Seems a bit out of touch to me. What do you think? And have you encountered so-called trick guys?

Men Cook Outside, Women Cook Inside?

While there might be an arbitrary distinction between cooking and grilling, this ad for Kingsford Charcoal suggests that cooking is for women and grilling is for men - only! When the woman goes to start the barbecue, her upset male mate says: "What would happen if I just walked into the kitchen and started making a salad?" Maybe she'd assume he wanted to eat a salad? Wrong! She'd be upset that he disrupted the perfect gender balance achieved by letting the woman cook inside and the man cook outside.
