Jun 5 2008 - 2:00pm We've been listening to years of controversy surrounding
Joe Simpson's involvement in his children's relationships, yet neither Jessica nor Ashlee seem to do anything to stop it. Of course we don't know what happens behind closed doors, and while the media has a tendency to create mountains out of molehills, there's gotta be some truth to Joe's persuasive and controlling ways, or else these nasty little rumors would have died years ago.
Now as someone who still yearns for my
parents' approval, I would like to think that I'd never let their opinions get in the way of finding true love, but what about you?

Ever since my parents tried to stop me from making the best decision of my life, I have completely written off their opinions, don't ask them for advice, and do not share life events until they have already happened. I have a very solid support system, they're just not part of it.
I do have other, older, relatives that I ask advice from. The perspective is necessary and they care about me and give me solid advice. But if I am certain about a decision, I won't let anyone get in my way because they are not me - and they don't know exactly how I feel.
1How do we know it's her dad and not Jessica????
2My parents have done nothing but support my husband and I. It's hard because we're from 2 different countries, and they help pay for plane tickets and they used to let him stay at our house when I lived with them. I guess they let me decide if I'm happy or not, and don't get involved in a negative way.
3yes my mom got in the way. she actually went to my pastor and told him not to marry us, called his parents and told them to tell their son that he was too young and stupid to get married. she drove me to the church when i got married, as i was sitting in the car, she turned and told me she had money and knew somebody who could hide me for a while so he couldn't find me. she used to tell me that we would get divorced after 7 years, cause thats how long a average marriage last now a days. of course we were 19 and 21 when we got married, waited 3 years to have kids, now 12 years later we're going stronger then ever, just having moved cross country. now we're having the best time of our life.

10My mom tried to tell me i was'nt ready for a reletionship because i was too young.. she did't allow me to kiss my bf in public or go to his house ... so the distance ended up braking us apart and it broke my heart.. to this very day i still havent forgiven her.

12my mom is my backbone, with my current relationship, my fiance and i have been engaged for a few months but have been dating 3 1/2 years, she is paying for almost the whole wedding, but my last marriage my mom was against it, i wish now she had been more aggressive, turned out to be the biggest mistake of my life, but my fiancee won major points by never being married and has no children, (not that my family wouldnt accept him if he did have kids or had been married) accepting and loving my 3 children one with cerebral palsy, so who couldnt love a man who will accept someone with not only three children but one with a disability, and love them and take them under his wing as if they were his own children, and never denied them a male father figure
13My parents always supported me and kept their mouth shut when they didnt agree with something I did (once I was an adult). My mom did a little happy dance when I called her to tell her I dumped my last exbf but never said "I told you so" and jumped on a plane the next day when I told her I needed her. My parents are awesome and eventually I figured out what I wanted and married a wonderful guy that makes my parents teary they love him so much.
They knew when to say something and when to shut up and everything turned out great

break our marriage up. still to this day she'll make cracks at our marriage. i guess she's a manhater. her loss not mine.
16No and I definitely wouldn't let them either. The Simpson's seem to allow it and see no problem with it.
17I'm not sure if my dad knows I'm in a relationship...My mom is a conservative Christian who wants me to marry inside my race to someone who is successful, ambitious and religious. I'm currently dating out of my race, and neither of us are religious. Oops!
When we were dating, she objected, but didn't nag me too much. She just kept saying I would get hurt. When I broke up with him, I was crushed, and I went through an emotionally painful time. My mom was all too eager to remind me, "I told you so." After he and I got back together, I still couldn't help but feel afraid my mom's prophesies would come true...However, I love him a lot, and I know to follow my heart and to not be influenced by mom's biases. She doesn't know we're back together...haha.
