I was dragged kicking and screaming to the Atlantic City leg of the American Idols tour over the summer, but once Adam Lambert started singing, I stopped complaining. Elvis by way of David Bowie for the 20-something set, Lambert is the real deal. This guy was smokin' - as a singer, an entertainer, and as a sex symbol.

Adam described his shoot for Details magazine as "heterosexual," and with all the sexy Adam-on-girl poses, I see what he means. "I am gay," he says, "but I like kissing women sometimes. Women are pretty. It doesn't mean I'm necessarily sleeping with them."

Since we all have about as much chance of sleeping with Cristiano Ronaldo or Clive Owen, why not play this game with Adam?

- American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert revealed his sexuality in a Rolling Stone cover story (he thought that would be cooler than a celebrity magazine).

Do you think gay public figures have an obligation to work for equality, or is pursuing a successful music career (as an openly gay man) the best way for Adam to open people's minds?

Simon Cowell received a surprise phone call from an old flame this past week on American Idol. When he was a young player many moons ago, 9-year-old Simon locked lips with a gal named Tara Miller. Girlfriend phoned into the show this week to see if our formidable judge found her performance that day "forgettable" or not. Meanwhile, Seacrest seized the opportunity to ask Tara, "Is Simon a good kisser?"

Last night's episode of American Idol strayed from the norm and gave the remaining five contestants not one but two opportunities to sing their hearts out and garner enough votes to make the final four. This complicated change of plan put our gal Paula into a head spin. The hallucinations followed (natch) and by the end of the first round of performances, she thought Jason Castro went twice when he only performed once - and did David Cook sing at all? Poor Paula took massive notes during the show, but they curiously didn't help . . .

Presidential Candidates on Idol Gives Back, Tonight!

Three wanna be American Idols will go on national TV tonight, trying to impress Americans in an attempt to get the most votes. I'm not talking talented singers, but rather the final three presidential candidates. I wonder if Ryan Seacrest is available to host Democratic debate #537?

Hillary Clinton, John McCain, and Barack Obama will appear on tonight's "Idol Gives Back" special, in a blatant attempt to look cool, I mean, raise money for charity. Are you excited to see the candidates at a fund raiser with Victoria and David Beckham, Jim Carrey, Adam Sandler, Alicia Keys, Celine Dion . . . ? Oh, and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown will be there, too.

But it turns out that the American Idol charity might not be "giving back" all it claims to be. To see the case of the missing millions, read more.

The charity has yet to specify where it spent the $76 million raised last year.

In fact, some $5 million remains undistributed. Dr. Irwin Redlener, the president and a co-founder (with the musician Paul Simon) of the Children’s Health Fund says, “sometimes celebrity or entertainment industry-based charities might not be the most sophisticated organizations in distributing the money they raise.”
