American Apparel Managers Told: Fire the Ugly People!

An American Apparel store manager sent Gawker an anonymous email claiming that controversial CEO Dov Charney was at it again.

The oft-sued Charney, this manager claimed, was demanding that underperforming AA stores send in photos of their sales staff to him so he could determine who wasn't good looking enough for the store. What would happen to these possibly hardworking folks who didn't enough resemble teenage Lolitas? Just guess:

"He made store managers across the country take group photos of their employees so that he could personally judge people based on looks. He is tightening the AA 'aesthetic,' and anyone that he deems not good-looking enough to work there, is encouraged to be fired."

If this allegation is proven, just wait for the lawsuits to roll in. (It's illegal, remember, to discriminate based on looks.) In the meantime, I guess I'm going to have to get my assless pantyhose from another purveyor. Perhaps the old school Frederick's of Hollywood?

What I mean to say is, ass-less stockings. The lovely Sasha Grey models these "sheer luxe cut-out panty hose," which are coming soon to American Apparel. I'm still trying to figure out if they have a utilitarian ass-pect, or if they're strictly for show.

Hipsters: Maybe Not So Good at Irony After All?

Some controversy's been a-boilin' up in a hipster part of town in San Francisco. The dilemma: Should the neighborhood allow American Apparel to open up a store in a neighborhood with no chain stores and risk starting a trend, or should they keep it real with locally owned funky shops? I thought it was already ironic that many people on the vehemently anti-American Apparel side admitted to wearing American Apparel clothes as they protested - and then I saw this picture. Of hipsters. With a sign. That says, "No more hipster scum." Ha! I thought you were supposed to be good at irony as a hipster. Maybe they're so good I'm missing something.

American Apparel is a glorified T-shirt shop that's made a name for itself by providing the highest quality ~~advertising~~ amateur porn around. While this is no secret, what goes on behind the scenes of AA's operation is anyone's guess. Where does Dov Charney, CEO and Raunchmaster Extraordinaire, find his hungover, semiconscious "models" anyway? And what's with all the spandex? We appreciate Senator Clinton's campaign on many fronts, but when it comes to the issue of immigration she has not shown the same strength and conviction as Obama. This was clear during last week's California debate. While he supports driver's licenses for undocumented workers, she is opposed "at this time." Tell that to a mother of three in East LA driving her children to school every day. Obama has also pledged to accomplish immigration reform in his first year; Clinton has not made such a commitment . . .
